Abstract: Even when the specimen contains human granulocyte elastase in the form of a mixture of free elastase with an elastase-inhibitor complex or complexes, the present invention enables the total quantity of elastase in that specimen to be precisely detected. The inhibitor is added to free elastase to convert it into an elastase-inhibitor complex, whereby the quantity of elastase can be measured by immunoassay as the total amount including the previously existing elastase-inhibitor complex. It is possible to precisely measure the total amount of elastase in mucus collected from the cervical canal of a pregnant woman, sputum or a rinsed solution of bronchovesicular lavage in which free elastase is mixed with an elastase-inhibitor complex.

Abstract: A 3-oxygermylpropionic acid preparation is provided, which activates the action of 3-oxygermylpropionic acid having the general formula:[(O.sub.1/2).sub.3 GeCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 COOH]n wherein n=an integer of at least 1 and is readily solubilized and disintegrated in vivo. The present preparation is manufactured by compression-molding at high pressure a composition comprising 3-oxygermylpropionic acid and two or more low-molecular substance of high solubility in water. The low-molecular substances are selected from the group consisting of white sugar, sorbitol, fructose, sucrose, glucose, lactose, mannitol and sodium chloride.

Abstract: An organic germanium compound to be effectively used for curing AIDS or making AIDS asymtomatic in various forms is expressed by the following rational formula: ##STR1## wherein n is an integer of 1 or 2 or more, is in the form of a white acicular or needle crystal, shows a solubility of 1.570/100 ml in water at 25.degree. C. and exhibits a melting (decomposition) point of 240.degree. C.

Abstract: A composition for inhibiting the degeneration of cells including liver cells by drugs and relieving the toxicity of drugs to internal organs including the liver contains as an essential component a 3-oxygermylpropionic acid polymer which is represented by:[(O.sub.1/2).sub.3 GeCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 COOH].sub.nwherein n is an integer of at least 1, takes the form of a white acicular crystal and has a melting point of about 230.degree. C. at which it decomposes or coagulates. The present composition may be used with a carrier hydroxypropylcellulose in an amount of 0.005 to 50% by weight relative to 0.005 to 5% by weight of the 3-oxygermylpropionic acid polymer.

Abstract: A stabilized composition of phytic acid is obtained by the steps of:heating and drying rice bran de-fatted by pressing;adding acidic water of pH 3 to 5 to the dried rice bran, stirring the solution and completing the stirring before the pH of the solution reaches 5.7; andheating the thus obtained liquid extract to solidify protein components, followed by the removal of the solid matters by filtration. This composition is advantageously used for removing uraroma and body odor.

Abstract: Composition obtained from a rice bran, which comprises a filtrate of lactic fermented and aged material of the rice bran, the filtrate being an odorless pale yellow solution, having a salty taste, and solubility with water and alcohols, or a powderized substance of the filtrate, a process for the preparation of the composition, and use of the composition as a deodorant.

Abstract: There are described 1-azoniabicyclo[3.3.0]oct-1(5)-ene salt derivatives inclusive of 1-azonia-4,6-dimethylbicyclo[3.3.0]oct-1(5)-ene perchlorate, and a process for the preparation of the same. The derivatives can be prepared by heating dicyclopropylmethanimine salt derivative in a solvent, in the presence or absence of an ammonium salt. Each of the derivatives is employed as an intermediate for preparing various medicines and agricultural chemicals.
