  • Patent number: 7688879
Abstract: In a method of forming a beam, data signals and pilot signals are generated by despreading signals that are received by a plurality of antennas, the received signals including a modulated data signal and a modulated pilot signal, respectively. A first covariance matrix is calculated for the pilot signals. A second covariance matrix is calculated for averages of the pilot signals. A weight vector is calculated based on the first and second covariance matrices. A beam forming output signal for forming a beam is generated based on the data signals and the weight vectors. Therefore, an optimal beam may be accurately formed.

  • Patent number: 7539166
Abstract: A channel estimator, demodulator, speed estimator and method thereof. The speed estimator may generate a speed indicator indicating a speed of a mobile device. The channel estimator may perform channel estimation based on the estimated speed indicated by the speed indicator. The demodulator may perform channel compensation based on the channel estimation performed by the channel estimator.

  • Patent number: 7529328
Abstract: An apparatus and method for estimating a Doppler frequency and a moving velocity of a wireless terminal are disclosed. The Doppler frequency estimator includes a filter bank, a non-coherent accumulator, and a maximum value detector. The filter bank filters demodulated signals with respect to frequency bands to provide a plurality of filtered signals. The non-coherent accumulator executes a non-coherent accumulation on each of the filtered signals to provide accumulated signals. The maximum value detector detects a signal having a largest value of the accumulated signals to provide a center frequency of a band corresponding to the detected signal as a Doppler frequency.

  • Publication number: 20060246895
Abstract: A mobile device includes an antenna, a signal processing unit and a main processor. The mobile device increases or re-initializes the variable power measurement period based on the occurrence or frequency of cell reselections, rather than relying upon GPS information. The signal processing unit processes RF cell signals received via the antenna. The main processor enables (wakes up) the signal processing unit to measure each power level of the received cell signals and adjusts the power measurement period based on the current actual cell reselection frequency (e.g., comparing the current actual cell reselection frequency with a predetermined cell reselection mean frequency, e.g., in a standby mode). The signals include cell signals received from each base station of a corresponding serving cell and of neighboring cells.

  • Patent number: 6850190
Abstract: A wireless fading-channel demodulator using adaptive sub-array group antennas to combine beamforming and diversity gain, a signal receiving system and method for mobile communications using the wireless fading-channel demodulator. The wireless fading-channel demodulator eliminates interference signals arriving at different directions-of-arrival (DOAs) from undesired mobile stations (users) and provides strong immunity to fading. A high signal and interference-to-noise ratio SINR can be achieved even when the number of antennas is smaller than the number of mobile stations (users). The wireless fading channel modulator can be applied to any system receiving mobile communication information, such as a base station, a mobile station, etc.
