    Abstract: A propulsion system for a propeller of an aircraft is described, wherein the propulsion system allows for transmission of electrical power such as for a deicing system for the propeller. The propulsion system comprises a rotatable shaft for transmission of mechanical power; aircraft end electrical connections at an aircraft end of the shaft for connection to first and second terminals of a source of electrical power; propeller end electrical connections at a propeller end of the shaft and being for connection to first and second terminals for supplying electrical power to electrical components on the propeller; and a mechanical coupling at the propeller end of the shaft for mounting the propeller to the shaft. The shaft comprises: an inner conductor extending along the length of the shaft; an outer conductor extending along the length of the shaft; and an electrical insulator extending along the shaft in between the inner and outer conductor.

    Abstract: A method of charging an energy storage system, such as a battery, a capacitor, or a super capacitor, using a wind turbine is described. The method comprises establishing if turbine power production can be increased and establishing if the energy storage system is capable of taking a charge. If both conditions are met, the power generated by the wind turbine is increased above a rated power of the wind turbine and the additional power is used to charge the energy storage systems. A method of control is also disclosed.

    Abstract: Methods of enhancing the growth rate and/or controlling the metabolic activity of lactic acid bacteria and of improving the shelf life and/or the quality of an edible product using lactic acid bacterial organisms which are defective in their pyruvate metabolism. There is also provided starter culture compositions comprising such defective lactic acid bacteria as helper organisms and lactic acid bacterial starter culture strains. Useful helper organisms are Lactococcus strains which are defective with respect to pyruvate formate lyase (Pfl) and/or lactate dehydrogenase (Ldh) activity. The helper organisms may overexpress a gene coding for a NAD+ regenerating enzyme such as NADH oxidase encoded by nox gene.
