  • Publication number: 20070167575
Abstract: The invention is directed to compositions comprising an elastomer component and a propylene component, and in which the elastomer component comprises at least one ethylene/?-olefin polymer, optionally containing a diene, and the polypropylene component comprises at least one branched polypropylene. Preferably, the elastomer component has a melt tan delta between about 0.7 and about 8, as measured by parallel plate rheometer at 0.1 rad/sec, 190° C., and 15 percent strain; and the ratio of the “melt tan delta of the elastomer component” to the “melt tan delta of the propylene component” is from 0.5 to 4. The invention also provides for method of making such compositions, and to low gloss articles prepared from the same. The inventive compositions are particularly suitable for fabricating thermoformed sheeting with reduced gloss.

Abstract: Thermoplastic vulcanizates comprise at least an ethylene/?-olefin interpolymer and at least one thermoplastic polymer, such as polyolefin. The ethylene/?-olefin interpolymer is a block copolymer having at least a hard block and at least a soft block. The soft block comprises a higher amount of comonomers than the hard block. The block interpolymer has a number of unique characteristics disclosed here. The block interpolymer is either used as a compatibilizer between a vulcanizable elastomer and a thermoplastic polymer or as a vulcanizable elastomer when it is in the EPDM form. The thermoplastic vulcanizates can be profiled extruded to make profiles and gaskets.

  • Publication number: 20050009942
Abstract: Rheology-modified thermoplastic elastomer compositions comprising a melt blend of an ethylene/a-olefin polymer and a high melting polymer such as polypropylene or a propylene/a-olefin copolymer wherein the rheology modification is induced by a combination of a peroxide and a free radical coagent. The resulting compositions have an elastomeric phase, a non-elastomeric phase and certain physical properties that exceed those of a like composition that is rheology-modified by peroxide alone. The compositions can be used to make a variety of articles of manufacture, such as automotive instrument panel skins, via calendaring and thermoforming procedures.
