Each region is to be processed independently, in the vertical or horizontal direction, from its original resolution to a target resolution. Each of the processed regions is to be displayed in the same order as originally defined in the high-resolution digital image, such that the display of all the processed regions would seems as if high-resolution digital image is processed from its original resolution to the target resolution as one region in a contiguous manner. The ratio of the target resolution over the original resolution can be either an integer or a fraction.
