  • Publication number: 20020129917
Abstract: A method for compacting molding sand in a mold space defined by a pattern plate, which is fixed in a horizontal position when the molding sand is compacted, a leveling frame disposed for vertical sliding movement around the outer periphery of the pattern plate, a frame member disposed for vertical movement above the leveling frame, and a filling frame disposed for vertical movement above the frame member. The method comprises the steps of feeding molding sand into the mold space, primarily compacting the molding sand in the mold space from above by compacting means while at least the leveling frame is being set so that it cannot be lowered, and secondarily compacting the molding sand in the mold space from above by the compacting means while the leveling frame, the frame member, and the filling frame are set so that these elements can be lowered.

  • Patent number: 6253827
Abstract: A method of compacting molding sand by using separated and independently controlled gas guiding pipes that are arranged over horizontally spaced locations of the entire surface of the molding sand. This enables independent compression of different features within the mold model and minimizes the energy consumed for compressing molding sand.

  • Patent number: 5947185
Abstract: Molding sand filled in a space defined by a pattern plate and a flask is pre-compacted before the molding sand is completely pressed. A pre-compacting member is inserted into the molding sand toward the pattern plate, and then is stopped based on a predetermined depth of the pre-compacting member in the molding sand or a predetermined pressure caused by the pre-compacting member in the molding sand.

  • Patent number: 5794681
Abstract: The machine includes a lifter table for lifting a pattern plate and flask which hold molding sand and a pre-compacting member and a pressing member disposed above the lifter table for horizontal movement and for being inserted into the flask when the lifter table lifts the flask. The pre-compacting member includes a thin-plate body to be positioned slightly spaced apart from an inner surface of the flask or inner and outer surfaces of a pattern when inserted into the molding sand held in the flask. The pressing member includes a squeezing body that presses the molding sand from above.

  • Patent number: 5409052
Abstract: Sand is charged into two spaces defined by a match plate, a pair of flasks, and a pair of squeeze plates, and is then compressed by moving the squeeze plates in the flasks toward the match plate to form the cope and drag molds. The properties of the molding sand are detected during the forming of the molds in order to suitably adjust the sand and the device. The device includes linear encoders connected to the squeeze plates so as to detect the amounts of the movements of the squeeze plates, and an electrode penetrating one squeeze plate so as to detect the electric resistance or the water-content value of the mold in the flask.

  • Patent number: 4781236
Abstract: A method of producing a mold core from green sand, wherein green sand is blown into a mold cavity which is sized to be greater than the size of the mold core to be obtained, so that a preformed mold body is prepared. The preformed mold body is then compacted by a compacting die having a cavity recess which is sized in conformity with the size of the mold core to be obtained, until the preformed mold body size is reduced to the final stage. In consequence, the green sand is compacted to develop uniform distributions of strength and hardness over the entire portion of the mold core as the product.

  • Patent number: 4289194
Abstract: A molding machine has a base, a pattern provided with a plurality of vent bores formed therethrough and mounted on the base, a molding flask arranged to be combined with the pattern, an upset frame superposed to the molding flask, cover means for making an airtight contact at its lower end with the upper surface of the base, molding flask or of the upset frame. Further, compressed air supplying means are provided for supplying compressed air into the closed space defined by the pattern, the molding flask and the upset frame, the space being filled with molding sand. The cover means include a cylindrical member and cover member. The cylindrical member slidably fits to the outside of the cover member in a telescopic manner, and is provided at its lower end with an inwardly projected flange.

  • Patent number: 4230172
Abstract: A molding apparatus having a pattern plate provided with vent through bores, a mold flask adapted to be placed on the pattern plate, an up-set frame adapted to be carried by the mold flask, a cover plate covering the upper end opening of the up-set frame, a squeeze plate disposed in the cover and movable into the up-set frame, and compressed air supplying means adapted to introduce compressed air into the space in the mold flask. After filling the space in the mold flask with the molding sand, the compressed air is introduced into the space in the mold flask by means of the compressed air supplying means. The air flows through the molding sand toward the vent through bores formed in the pattern plate so that the molding sand particles are packed and consolidated in the area around the vent through bores.
