Abstract: Provided is a bacteriostatic composition for salmonellae containing, as the active ingredient, a fermented broth obtained by effecting fermentation with the use of a lactic acid bacteriium belonging to the genus Leuconostoc, Streptococcus or Streptobacterium in a sucrose-containing medium, or a preparation originating in the supernatant obtained by subjecting the fermented broth to fractional precipitation from a water-miscible organic solvent.

Abstract: An oxidized complex comprising a water-soluble carboxypolysaccharide and magnetic iron oxide, which is characterized by being obtained by oxidizing a complex comprising a water-soluble carboxypolysaccharide and magnetic iron oxide. Said oxidized complex has very low toxicity, is very stable, exhibits little or no blood pressure-reducing action and has low platelets-aggregating action when administered directly into the blood vessels of animals, and is useful in medical fields such as contrast medium for magnetic resonance imaging, exothermic medium for hyperthermia and the like.

Abstract: A composition containing magnetic metal oxide ultrafine particles, which comprises an aqueous sol of a complex of the magnetic metal oxide ultrafine particles with a polysaccharide, a polysaccharide derivative and/or a protein; and an organic monocarboxylic acid. The composition is free of side effects such as platelet aggregation, is safe for use with living bodies, and, in the case of intravascular administration, has no harmful effects on living bodies, and is useful in fields such as medicine and diagnostic drugs.

Abstract: A cationized dextran of the following formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a group selected from the class consisting of a hydrogen atom, hydroxy lower alkyl groups, and quaternary nitrogen-containing groups of the formula ##STR2## in which R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represent a lower alkyl group, and R' represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy lower alkyl group, and n is a positive number of from 1 to 8,000; two or more R groups may be identical or different provided that at least one of R groups is the quaternary nitrogen-containing group of the above formula;and a salt thereof; a process for its production; and a hair or skin cosmetic composition containing aforesaid cationized dextran or its salt.
