  • Patent number: 5878576
Abstract: The present invention discloses a master cylinder MC, which comprises a body section 2, a cap 3, a cylinder housing 1 composed of the body section 2 and the cap 3, a sleeve 8 fitted in the cylinder housing 1, primary and secondary pistons 4 and 5 provided to be guided by the sleeve 8 and slid, first and second pressure chambers 9 and 10 and spring mechanisms 11 and 12 respectively disposed in the first and second pressure chambers for pressing the primary and secondary pistons 4 and 5 in returning directions. In the peripheral portion 17a of the spring retainer 17 of the spring mechanism 11 for pressing the primary piston 4, hook sections 17e are formed by protruding a plurality of portions 17d outward in an axial direction and then folding the tip of each of the protruded portions in a piston axial direction so as to hook the same in the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve 8.

  • Patent number: 5438833
Abstract: A master cylinder (1) has a cylinder housing (2) composed of a body (3) having an opening at one end thereof and a cap (4) screwed into the opening of the body; pistons (6, 7) installed movably and guided and supported by a piston (5) and guide sleeve (10) in the cylinder housing; and pressure chambers (8, 9) in the housing in communication with a reservoir (2, 6) via through holes (13, 14) which are closed to cut off communication between the pressure chambers and the reservoir as the pistons move into the pressure chambers during application of the pistons to send under pressure the fluid in the pressure chambers to an operation system. A piston guide section (17) extending in the radial direction is integrally formed on the inner peripheral surface of the cap, and a passage (25) having one end (25a) open on the sliding surface of the piston (6) and the other end (25b) in communication with the reservoir (26) is formed in the cap.

  • Patent number: 5431014
Abstract: A master cylinder having a sleeve that will not deform due to the difference in fluid pressures caused by the operation of the brake and a construction having dimensions that can be easily controlled. The master cylinder comprises a cylinder housing comprising a body and a cap, pistons received in the cap and disposed slidably in the cylinder housing, and piston guides, at least one of said guides in the form of a sleeve having a slit extending the entire length of the sleeve in a direction parallel to the piston axis and further having a passage communicating with an outside fluid passage.

  • Patent number: 5074197
Abstract: In a master cylinder for use in various braking devices of an automatic vehicle and the like, a cylinder housing is constituted by a body having an opening at one end thereof and by a cap which is coupled with the body to close the opening. A piston is inserted through the cap and is freely slidably arranged inside the cylinder housing and is guided by a piston guide or a sleeve having a path which is in communication with an external fluid path. The master cylinder has a single groove or a plurality of grooves with a micro-sized depth defined in the surface of the piston guide where it engages the cylinder housing between the external fluid path and a pressure chamber defined by the master cylinder and piston. The master cylinder also has a tapered portion provided on the inner surface of the cylinder housing, and another tapered portion is provided on the end of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4706546
Abstract: A liquid pressure booster as may be used in a brake booster or clutch booster produces an oil pressure of a level which corresponds to the magnitude of an input applied to an input shaft. The oil pressure acts upon a power piston, which then produces an amplified output in response to a small input. The oil pressure is also returned to act upon the input shaft so as to provide a reaction to the input. The invention provides a step in at least one of the input shaft and the power piston so that the combination of the step and the housing defines a pressure chamber having a pressure responsive surface at the step. A flow path switching valve selectively establishes a communication of the pressure chamber with either the power chamber or a reservoir. When the switching valve is operated, the pressure responsive area of the input shaft which is acted upon by the oil pressure can be changed, thereby changing the magnitude of the reaction transmitted to a driver.
