Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a brightness controller and a display module. The brightness controller is configured to be capable of controlling a brightness of a backlight, which is configured to light sources, in units of a predetermined area corresponding to at least one light source, and configured to control at a first brightness at least one light source constituting a first light source area corresponding to a selected area on a display area, and configured to control at a second brightness at least one light source constituting a second light source area corresponding to a non-selected area on the display area. The display module is configured to display the selected area in accordance with the control at the first brightness by the brightness controller, and configured to display the non-selected area in accordance with the control at the second brightness by the brightness controller.
