Abstract: A controlled release lozenge having pleasant organoleptic properties, said lozenge consisting essentially of (a) a soluble filler which is selected from the group consisting of maltitol, xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol, lactose, dextrose, saccharose, fructose, and mixtures thereof; (b) an insoluble film forming agent which is capable of forming an insoluble matrix, said insoluble film forming agent is selected from the group consisting of a polyacrylate, ethyl cellulose, polyvinylchloride, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate phthalate, and shellac; (c) a swellable polymer which is selected from the group consisting of xanthan gum, guar gum, alginic acid or a salt thereof, pectin, polyvinyl alcohol, polysaccharide, and cellulose derivatives; and (d) at least one active substance.

Abstract: A water-dispersible tablet essentially consisting of(a) microparticles which contain at least one pharmaceutically active substance(b) a least one disintegrant and(c) a swellable material, which is able to generate a high viscosity when coming into contact with water;which disintegrates rapidly in water thus forming a homogeneous suspension of high viscosity that can easily be swallowed, is disclosed. It is prepared by methods known per se.

They comprise (a) a core, containing microparticles of at least one pharmaceutically active substance, (b) optionally one or more coating layer(s) and (c) a swellable outer layer. They are manufactured by methods known per se.

Abstract: A controlled release tablet comprising(I) a core, containing as essential components(a) at least one water-soluble pharmaceutically active substance which is dispersed in a water-insoluble, non-digestible polymeric excipient, and(b) a water-insoluble polymeric substance, which is swellable under the influence of water, and(II) a coating essentially of an elastic, water-insoluble and semipermeable diffusion film of a polymer,is presented, which shows a release pattern for the active substance(s) in a programmed rate of approximately zero order.

Abstract: A granular delayed-release form of pharmaceutically active substances, which is prepared by coating a granulated or crystalline pharmaceutically active substance, or mixtures thereof, with a coating material mixture consisting essentially of a homogeneous mixture of a poly(H+meth)-acrylic acid-(methyl+ethyl)ester which is insoluble but dispersible in water and an ethyl cellulose which is insoluble but dispersible in water in the weight ratio of 20:1 to 1:5, is presented, which is characterized by the fact that the coated granules are heated for at least 5 minutes at elevated temperatures ranging from between 50.degree. to 120.degree. C.
