  • Patent number: 7667355
Abstract: A linear motor comprising a coil assembly and a magnet assembly is provided with a cooling apparatus which comprises a segmented air knife assembly. The segmented air knife assembly has a plurality of slot openings distributed along its length which is coupled to the linear motor and it is operative to discharge cooling air into a gap between the coil assembly and magnet assembly in a discharge direction. An inclined surface extends from the plurality of slot openings and slopes at an obtuse angle away from the discharge direction of the cooling air. Each slot opening is individually configured to discharge the cooling air in the discharge direction at a sufficient velocity so as to entrain atmospheric air along the inclined surface to amplify the cooling air that is so discharged.

  • Patent number: 7624208
Abstract: Disclosed is a queuing system implemented method, a queuing system and an article of manufacture. The queuing system implemented method directs the queuing system to manage a queue according to a quality of service parameter. The queue is associated with the queuing system. The queue is used for receiving requests. The queue is associated with a worker thread used to process contents of the queue. The queuing system implemented method includes: placing the request in the queue, permitting the worker thread to process the placed request, determining a response time, the response time being the time taken to complete processing of the placed request, and adjusting the worker thread if the determined response time does not satisfy the quality of service parameter, the adjusted worker thread used for processing another request placed in the queue in which a new response time taken to complete processing of the another placed request satisfying the quality of service parameter.

  • Patent number: 7561554
Abstract: A system for detecting rogue access points (APs) includes a detecting station (130) and a device for identifying rogue access points (110). The detecting station scans access points and stations associated with the access points, in order to compile an AP list and an association list within the scope of the detecting station, and transmits the AP list and the association list. The device for identifying rogue access points (110) includes a receiving module (112) and a determining module (114). The receiving module receives the AP list and the association list. The determining module determines whether each access point in the AP list is a rogue access point. A related method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7512096
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for communicating data over a network between a communication node, for example, an access point having a first and a second antenna and a first and a second mobile station. The method comprises weighting a first data at the access point to transmit the first data using the first and second antennas so that the first mobile station only receives the first data and weighting a second data at the access point to transmit the second data using the first and second antennas so that the second mobile station only receives the second data. A space division multiple access (SDMA) module may cause a transmission protocol to transmit the first data to the first mobile station on the downlink and transmit the second data to the second mobile station in parallel to the transmission of the first data on the downlink.

  • Publication number: 20070207811
Abstract: A method for locating a mobile device in a wireless communications system comprised of a plurality of base stations is provided. The method comprises associating the mobile device with a first base station of the plurality of base stations. Thereafter, a paging signal is delivered from a subset of base stations associated with the first base station to the mobile device. The subset of base stations may correspond to a network active set of base stations associated with the mobile device. Thereafter, when a signal from one of the base stations in the subset of base stations is received, indicating that the mobile device responded to the paging signal from the one base station, then the mobile device is located and may be associated with the one base station for future paging attempts.

  • Publication number: 20070002765
Abstract: In a wireless network or other communication system, admission of users to the system is based on predicted scheduling gain. A scheduler is configured to manage access to network resources for users already admitted to the system. An admission control module is coupled to the scheduler, and determines a predicted scheduling gain of the scheduler under an operating scenario involving admission of at least one additional user to the system. The predicted scheduling gain is processed to generate at least one performance metric which is used to make an admission control decision regarding admission of the at least one additional user to the system.

  • Publication number: 20060285490
Abstract: In a wireless network or other communication system, admission of users to the system involves use of a first scheduler, which makes actual scheduling decisions for admitted users, and a second scheduler, which emulates the operation of the first scheduler. The first scheduler is configured to manage access to network resources for users already admitted to the system. The first scheduler is coupled to an admission control module which contains the second scheduler. The second scheduler, also referred to herein as a virtual scheduler, emulates operation of the first scheduler, under an operating scenario involving admission of at least one additional user to the system, in order to generate a performance metric. The performance metric is used to make an admission control decision regarding admission of the at least one additional user to the system.

  • Publication number: 20060104313
Abstract: A technique for avoiding spurious TCP timeouts through delay injection which requires no modification of, or access to, the TCP protocol itself. More particularly, injection of additional random delay or jitter at some point in a packet's roundtrip path across a wireless communications network is employed so as to increase the variance in round trip times, without significantly increasing the average value thereof. Spurious TCP timeouts are avoided through the artificial delay injection which occurs at a network element along the communications path and without modification of, or requiring access to, the TCP protocol. Further, the injection of artificial delay is applied on a transaction-by-transaction basis. That is, the decision to inject, or not inject, the artificial delay as well as the value of the injected delay are applied to each TCP connection or TCP flow.

  • Publication number: 20060056365
Abstract: A method for controlling a wireless communications system is provided. A plurality of substantially identical base stations, each capable of being operated as both a primary agent and a secondary agent are deployed. The secondary agent is capable of communicating with a mobile device and the primary agent is capable of communicating with a network. A network active set associated with a mobile device is formed from a plurality of the base stations. One of the base stations in the network active set is selected to operate as the primary agent, and it communicates to the other base stations that the selected base station is operating as the primary agent. Thus, communications between the network and the mobile device are routed through the primary agent and the selected secondary agent.

  • Publication number: 20060058056
Abstract: A method for controlling a communications session with a mobile device in a wireless communications system comprised of a plurality of base stations is provided. The method comprises selecting a plurality of base stations, where at least a portion of the base stations are adapted to operate as a secondary agent, and wherein the secondary agent is capable of communicating with a mobile device. Substantially similar control information regarding the communications session is maintained in a plurality of the secondary agents. A first one of the secondary agents is selected as a first serving secondary agent to communicate with the mobile device. The first serving secondary agent uses the control information during the communications session with the mobile device. In this manner, each of the secondary agents is capable of quickly and efficiently taking over the role of communicating with the mobile device.
