  • Publication number: 20120001425
Abstract: A hydraulic coupling suitable for high pressure gas service has a male member, a female member, and a coupling member, where the male member and female member have corresponding sealing faces which mate together. The sealing face of the male member has a protruding lip member, which defines a primary seal and a second seal backwardly disposed from the primary seal. Upon application of axial force, which drives the two sealing faces together, the protruding lip member makes engaging contact with a portion of the sealing face of the female member. Upon application of further axial force, the second sealing member is deflected into a portion of the female sealing face, such that both the first sealing member and the second sealing member are in sealing contact with the female sealing face.

  • Patent number: 7792006
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical head with a single or multiple sub-wavelength light beams, which can be used in arenas such as photolithography, optical storage, optical microscopy, to name a few. The present invention includes a transparent substrate, a thin film, and a surface structure with sub-wavelength surface profile. The incident light transmits through the transparent substrate, forms a surface plasma wave along the sub-wavelength aperture located within the thin film, and finally re-emits through spatial coupling with the sub-wavelength profile of the surface structure. As the coupled re-emitting light beam or light beams can maintain the waist less than that of the diffraction limit for a few micrometers out of the surface with sub-wavelength profile in many cases, this invention can have applications ranging from micro or nano manufacturing, metrology, and manipulation by using light beams with waist smaller than the diffraction limit.

  • Publication number: 20070154202
Abstract: A first and a second image (401 and 501) containing a shared region of interest (400) are captured (201 and 202) using a rolling shutter mode of image capture. These two images are captured at different times, such that the second image follows the first image by a given amount of time.

  • Publication number: 20060262140
Abstract: A visual reality augmentation apparatus (300) comprises one or more (substantially) real time reality context input stages (301, 302) that provide corresponding reality context information to a reality content detector (303). The latter provides detected object information to an augmented reality content display (304) that provides augmentation information (via, for example, projection display techniques) to augment the real world scene being viewed by a viewer. In a preferred approach a direction-of-gaze detector (305) detects the viewer's gaze direction. That information then serves to facilitate positional synchronization of the augmentation information to the viewer's point of view of the corresponding real world information.

  • Publication number: 20060177145
Abstract: A method and apparatus for object-of-interest image de-blurring includes functions that determine (305, 310) an object region of an object-of-interest in an image that may be generated by image capture device (805), that determine (315, 825) a motion vector of the object-of-interest, that determine (325, 830) a scaling factor, and that generate (330) a de-blurred object region by processing the object region using a deconvolution filter (835) formulated from the motion vector and the scaling factor.

  • Publication number: 20060165288
Abstract: A method and apparatus for object-of-interest image capture accomplishes the functions of capturing (120) a current image, determining (125) an object region of the object-of-interest in the current image, calculating (130) a contrast measurement of the object region, and identifying (135) the current image as having an optimized object region when an iteration measure meets a criterion. The current image is captured using a local exposure value determined from luminance readings of pixels within an object region of an object-of-interest of a previous image.

  • Publication number: 20060159339
Abstract: Captured images are provided (101) and analyzed (102) to generate corresponding image content information. One or more statistics are then generated (103) as a function of that image content information and those statistics transmitted (104) to a remote receiver via a communication link (or links) of choice. That statistical information, alone or in combination with similar information from other sources, can then be processed (302) to facilitate developing information regarding preferences, experiences, and/or the like regarding the user (or users) of a given device.

  • Publication number: 20060120602
Abstract: An electronic device (1100) and a method for character segmentation (100) includes an image analyzer (1110) that generates individual character images. The image analyzer binarizes (115) a gray scale image (200) of a horizontal row of characters by using a general threshold method to generate a first image (300). The image analyzer also binarizes (120) the gray scale image using an edge detection method to generate a second image (405). The image analyzer determines (125) a character row region (425) of the second image by using horizontal projection analysis. The image analyzer isolates (130) the character row region of the first image using the character row region of the second image. The image analyzer uses the character row region to generate (135) individual character images. The electronic device may include an image capture device (1105) and a character recognition program (1115).
