Patent number: 10496694Abstract: For an augmented reality (AR) content creation system having a marker database, when a user requests this system to use a first sub-image of an image to update the marker database, this system computes a suitability score of the first sub-image for rating feature richness of the first sub-image and uniqueness thereof against existing markers in the marker database. When the suitability score is less than a threshold value, a second sub-image of the image having a suitability score not less than the threshold value and completely containing the first sub-image is searched. Then the second sub-image, the suitability score thereof and the suitability score of the first sub-image are substantially-immediately presented to the user for real-time suggesting the user to use the second sub-image instead of the first sub-image as a new marker in updating the marker database to increase feature richness or uniqueness of the new marker.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2016Date of Patent: December 3, 2019Assignee: Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company LimitedInventors: Kar-Wing Edward Lor, King Wai Chow, Laifa Fang

Patent number: 9563211Abstract: A power converter for a load with varying power requirements dynamically adjusts its supply voltage to the load so as to track the radio frequency (RF) envelope of the signal being carried by the load. The supply voltage can be provided by a multiple-output charge pump providing multiple output voltage levels concurrently, and a switch to provide a selected one of the different output voltage levels as the supply voltage to the load. A controller controls the switch to dynamically modify the voltage level selected for output as the supply voltage such that the supply voltage tracks the RF envelope of the signal being carried by the load. As the switching losses of transistors of the power converter may exceed the power savings achieved through envelope tracking, the power converter employs a peak following frequency divider circuit that limits the switching frequency of the power converter to a threshold frequency.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2013Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: ATI Technologies ULCInventor: David King Wai Li

Publication number: 20150042764Abstract: A method is provided for constructing a three-dimensional hyperspectral image using compressive sensing. The method includes: configuring on/off state of each mirror in an array of micromirrors in accordance with a pattern; capturing image data of a scene from a first point of view using a first photodetector; and capturing image data of the scene from second point of view using a second photodetector, where second point of view differs from the first point of view. The steps are repeated to obtain a series of measurement samples, where the array of micromirrors is configured in accordance with a pattern that differs amongst each measurement samples. By choosing different photodetectors with different band gap nanomaterials, the first and second photodetectors detects photons in the electromagnetic spectrum. As a result, the three-dimensional image also carry the spectrum information of the scene.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2014Publication date: February 12, 2015Inventors: Ning Xi, King Wai Chiu Lai, Hongzhi Chen, LiangLiang Chen, Bo Song
