  • Patent number: 5092428
Abstract: A drum brake in which a parking brake is incorporated. A parking brake lever is mounted in the interior of a vehicle and is operable to pull a parking lever through a cable. The rotation of the parking lever causes a pair of brake shoes to be forced tightly against a brake drum. This results in the generation of a braking force. A stopper member is provided to limit the maximum angular position of the parking brake. This design prevents contact of the parking lever with a rotary shaft due to excessive pulling of the parking lever and thus damage of the rotary shaft as well as the parking lever.

  • Patent number: 5033590
Abstract: A brake friction pad is provided with a recessed portion in one side of a backing plate and a riveting projection on the other side of the backing plate and a wear limit warning piece for a lining secured to the one side of the backing plate is riveted to the projection. The projection is formed with a plurality of steps. The wear limit warning piece is secured to the backing plate with an uppermost projecting portion of the projection fitted in a hole formed in the wear limit warning piece.

  • Patent number: 4995482
Abstract: A disc brake comprising a carrier member, a disc, a pair of friction pads supported by the carrier and arranged to slide in the axial direction of the disc, one of the pads having a backing member, a caliper mounted to the carrier for straddling the disc and arranged to slide in the axial direction of the disc, the caliper having at least a cylinder portion, a piston mounted in the cylinder portion and arranged to slide in the axial direction of the disc, the piston facing one of the friction pads on the side thereof remote from the disc, a boot means for shielding the piston, a shim means disposed between the piston and the backing member, and a shielding plate formed integrally with the shim means and located between the disc and the boot means. The shielding plate includes a first portion axially extending from the shim toward the disc and a second portion radially outwardly extending from the extension of the first portion.

  • Patent number: 4836339
Abstract: A disc brake for a vehicle has a pair of friction pads which are disposed on each side of a disc. A shielding plate is provided in such a manner as to shield a boot which shields at least one slide portion. Thus, the boot is protected from sparks which are generated by contact between the disc and the pads, and the boot is thereby prevented from being burned and deteriorated.

  • Patent number: 4607728
Abstract: A pad spring for use in a disc brake including a stationary member adapted to be secured to a non-rotatable part of a vehicle at one side of a rotatable disc and having two circumferentially spaced leg portions which straddle the outer circumference of the disc and mount slidably thereon a pair of friction pads, and a caliper slidably mounted on the stationary member. The pad spring has a base portion contacting with and extending along a side surface of the leg portion of the stationary member, a retaining portion extending from the base portion and retainingly engaging with the leg portion, a pressing portion extending from the base portion and resiliently engaging the radially outer surface of the friction pads, and a restricting portion extending from the base portion and to a position radially outwards of the pressing portion and being normally spaced therefrom by a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 4467897
Abstract: A disc brake including a stationary carrier, a caliper slidably mounted on the carrier and straddling the outer circumference of a rotatable disc and having inner and outer leg portions, inner and outer friction pads slidably mounted on the carrier respectively, and a brake actuator incorporated in the inner leg portion of the caliper. First and second springs are mounted on the outer friction pad with the central portions thereof being secured to the outer friction pad respectively. The first spring has arm portions resiliently engaging with the outer leg portion of the caliper to press the outer friction pad toward the outer leg portion generally in the direction of the axis of the disc. The opposite end portions of the second spring are resiliently inserted into gaps formed between the circumferentially opposite ends of the outer friction pad and the carrier.

  • Patent number: 4220225
Abstract: A disc brake including a stationary caliper holder with a caliper slidably mounted thereon. The caliper holder having respective pairs of inner and outer arms for slidably mounting inner and outer friction pads between the inner and outer arms, projection-and-recess engagement between the backing plates of the friction pads and the inner and outer arms, and an outer beam connecting the outer arms of the caliper holder and extending on the outside or back side of the friction pad. The distance between the inner end surface of the outer beam and the outer end portions of the outer arms which engage with the backing plate of the corresponding friction pad is larger than the thickness of the backing plate so that the friction pad can easily be removed from the disc brake.
