  • Publication number: 20110286600
Abstract: A system for wireless transmission between a device such as a game controller and a base transceiver linked with a host device. Multiple controllers can be linked with the base transceiver through radio frequency transmission, and audio signals can be selectively transmitted therebetween. Audio commands can be introduced with manual controls at the controller for transmission to the base transceiver. Audio signals can be generated, mixed or otherwise processed by the combination of the host device and base transceiver for selective transmission to one or more controllers. The combination of manual switches, audio commands, and radio frequency transmission provides unique combinations of interaction between a person and the host device.

  • Patent number: 6409600
Abstract: An improved game controller. D-pad keys are positioned above a printed circuit board-with plungers guided by housing apertures. The D-pad key is top-loaded into contact with the housing to simplify manufacture and operating reliability. The D-pad key can be depressed downwardly until it contacts a pivot supported by a pivot post. The combination of elements permits significant design flexibility in the orientation and shape and operation of a D-pad key. Front mounted triggers replace front mounted buttons attached to a separate vertical printed circuit board. The triggers function with the main printed circuit board, thereby reducing cost and enhancing product reliability.

  • Patent number: 6341927
Abstract: A tamper resistant fastener, which can only be rotated with a specific key, is described. The fastener includes a head for rotation about a vertical axis. The head is provided with the least two cutouts in the head of the faster spaced away from the vertical axis, the cutouts having a discontinuous sidewall. The side wall of each of the cutouts has a first generally vertical engaging surface for engagement by a mating member on a specific key for clockwise rotation of the head about the vertical axis and a second generally vertical engaging surface for engagement by the mating member on the specific key for counter clockwise rotation of the head about vertical axis. The side wall of the cutout is interrupted adjacent the second engaging surface to prevent engagement by a tool other than the specific key and thereby prevent rotation of the fastener in a counter clockwise direction by a tool other than the specific key.

  • Patent number: 6294286
Abstract: A portable electronic apparatus comprises a housing for facilitating battery exchange therein. The housing has an opening for containing the battery. The opening has first and second apertures for permitting the battery to be pushed directly into contact with a retainer. Access to the battery is unobstructed to expedite battery exchange and to permit movement of the battery in different directions through the housing opening. Multiple retaining arms can have arcuate surfaces for holding the battery. The housing can have multiple retaining arms having complementary battery holding surfaces and can have two housing sections attached to the multiple retaining arms. Each of the two housing sections can be attached to retaining arms each having an arcuate surface for contacting the battery, and the retaining arms can be oriented in an interleaved configuration.

  • Patent number: 6294285
Abstract: A portable, battery operated electronic device for facilitating battery exchange. The electronic device housing has an opening for containing the battery. The opening has first and second apertures for permitting the battery to be pushed directly into contact with a retainer. Access to the battery is unobstructed to expedite battery exchange and to permit movement of the battery in different directions through the housing opening. The method of the invention permits quick exchange of batteries so that continuous operation of the electronic device is not encumbered. By sliding the battery against electrical contacts within the opening, the contacts are automatically cleaned during battery replacement. Visual contact with the battery permits continuous display of battery charge strips attached to the battery exterior case.
