Patent number: 10426073Abstract: In one embodiment, an agricultural system includes a tool bar configured to couple to a tow vehicle. The tool bar is configured to support at least one row unit assembly. The agricultural system also includes a lift assist assembly coupled to the tool bar such that rotation of the tool bar relative to the lift assist assembly about a vertical axis is blocked. The lift assist assembly is configured to provide lifting support to the tool bar. The lift assist assembly comprises a frame, one or more rolling elements configured to contact a surface of a field, and one or more telescoping members configured to adjust a configuration of the lift assist assembly along at least one of a lateral axis, a longitudinal axis, and the vertical axis.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2016Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: CNH Industrial America LLCInventors: Nathaniel Kip Totten, Cale Nolan Boriack, Marvin A. Prickel

Patent number: 10231382Abstract: A method of grasping a bale of crop material and placing the bale in a bale wagon, the method comprising the steps of sensing, grasping and evaluating. The sensing step includes sensing a presence of a bale between grasping arms of a bale grasping mechanism. The grasping step includes grasping the bale with the grasping arms. The evaluating step includes evaluating a size of the bale that has been grasped.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2016Date of Patent: March 19, 2019Assignee: CNH Industrial America LLCInventors: Nathaniel Kip Totten, Jeffrey B. Fay, II

Patent number: 10172275Abstract: In one embodiment, an agricultural implement system includes a pivotable lift assembly. The pivotable lift assembly includes a first bar member and a second bar member rotatively coupled to the first bar member. The pivotable lift assembly further includes a first wheel assembly disposed on a first end of the second bar member and a second wheel assembly disposed on a second end of the second bar member. The pivotable lift assembly also includes an attachment assembly configured to attach the pivotable lift assembly to an agricultural implement, wherein the pivotable lift assembly is configured to aid in carrying a weight of the agricultural implement.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2016Date of Patent: January 8, 2019Assignee: CNH Industrial America LLCInventors: Kip Totten, Cale Boriack, Brian J. Anderson, Marvin A. Prickel

Patent number: 10091937Abstract: A grasping mechanism for an agricultural bale wagon has a fixed grasping arm and a movable grasping arm. The movable grasping arm is translatable toward and away from the fixed grasping arm. The movable grasping arm can be rotated to define varying angular relationships between the fixed grasping arm and the movable grasping arm. Rotation and translation of the movable grasping arm are effected by an actuator. A resilient bumper between the fixed grasping arm and movable grasping arm is adjustable automatically to span the adjusted width between the fixed grasping arm and movable grasping arm.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2016Date of Patent: October 9, 2018Assignee: CNH Industrial America LLCInventors: Jeffrey B. Fay, II, Nathaniel Kip Totten

Patent number: 10021822Abstract: A seed planting apparatus includes a toolbar mounted on a tractor for traversing the ground in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the toolbar. A plurality of seeding units are spaced laterally across the toolbar for ground penetration and planting of seeds. A ground engaging wheel is provided and a linkage connects the wheel to the toolbar for up and down movement relative to the ground. An actuator interconnects the toolbar to at least one of the linkage and wheel for selectively elevating the wheel. A bulk seed hopper is supported adjacent the wheel and a control system determines a parameter associated with the toolbar and raises and lowers the wheel to transfer weight from the bulk feed hopper to and from the toolbar.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2015Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: CNH Industrial America LLCInventors: Nathaniel Kip Totten, Cale N. Boriack

Patent number: 9861036Abstract: A header for an agricultural harvester including a skid shoe that is resistant to penetration into soil. The skid shoe includes a central portion having a fore end, an aft end, and first and second lateral sides extending between the fore and aft ends. At least a first upwardly directed surface extends from the first lateral side and defines a first soil deflecting surface configured to resist penetration of the skid shoe into soil. The header includes a chassis that experiences upwardly and radially directed applied loads during operation, including during turning of the header. The skid shoe is operable to receive such loads while effectively deflecting soil as the header traverses a field being harvested. As a result of the upwardly directed surface of the skid shoe, less damage is inflicted on the field and the crop growing therein.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2014Date of Patent: January 9, 2018Assignee: CNH Industrial America LLCInventors: Nathaniel Kip Totten, Melanie W. Harkcom, Kyle Kenning Runkle
