    Abstract: Methods and systems for providing audio advertisements to client devices are disclosed. A request for an advertisement may be received at a server computer from a software library on a client device. The request may include one or more targeting criteria. An advertisement may be selected based at least in part on the one or more targeting criteria. The advertisement may be configured as text data. The text data may be encoded using speech synthesis markup language (SSML). The advertisement may be transmitted to the client device from the server computer. The software library may be configured to convert the text data to synthesized sound, and output the sound from the client device. The software library may include a text-to-speech (TTS) software module, which may convert the text data into synthesized sound, and output the sound from the client device.
