  • Patent number: 7449858
Abstract: The present invention provides a diagnostics methodology and embedded electronic system that allows optimized low-frequency data sampling for EMA motoring subsystems in an operating vehicle. Each of the EMA motoring subsystems includes: an EMA; at least one motor for driving the EMA; and power controls for operating the motor, wherein the power controls includes a DSP controller for sampling and processing data at low-frequency sampling rates. The diagnostic methodology includes a method that has the steps of: determining an operational mode of the EMA motoring subsystem; selecting a sampling rate optimized for the determined operational mode; acquiring and processing data at the selected sampling rate; and analyzing the processed data to identify and classify a fault of the EMA motoring subsystem.

  • Publication number: 20070194772
Abstract: A method of assessing soundness of a motor-driven device, i.e., a fuel pump. The method includes sampling power input while providing substantially constant power to the motor. A frequency spectrum of the sampled input is used to determine an efficiency of the motor. The determined efficiency is related to soundness of the device and/or motor. This method makes it possible to assess fuel pump performance without having to gain physical access to the pump.

  • Publication number: 20050114090
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for assessing component health for reconfigurable control are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of operating a product includes monitoring a first diagnostic information of a component of the product, and monitoring a second diagnostic information of a system that includes the component. The first and second diagnostic informations are then combined, and based at least partially on the combined first and second diagnostic information at least one of the component and the system are reconfigured.
