  • Patent number: 5280103
Abstract: 1-[2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)-3,3,4,4,5,5,5-heptafluoropentyl]-3,5-diaminoben zene and 1-[2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)-3,3,4,4,5,5,5-heptafluoropentyl]-4-aminobenzen e, as well as fluorinated polymers, preferably polyimides. The perfuuoroalkyl group of these amines is connected to the benzene ring through a tertiary carbon atom followed by a methylene group. This renders the amines more reactive than other amines, where the perfluoroalkyl group is connected directly to the benzene ring. The absence of hydrogen from the group containing the tertiary carbon atom which is adjacent to the perfluorinated groups, prohibits dehydrofluorination.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 17, 1992
Date of Patent: January 18, 1994
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Brian C. Auman, David P. Higley, Kirby V. Scherer
  • Patent number: 5214214
Abstract: There is provided a novel perfluorochemical represented by the formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sub.F is a perfluoroalkyl group, a perfluoro alkoxyalkyl group or a perfluoroalkyloxy group, X and X' are same as or different from each other and are a fluorine atom or a perfluoroalkyl group, and Y is a perfluoroalkyloxy group or a perfluoro dialkylamino group, the total number of the carbon atoms contained being an integer of 8 to 11 inclusive. The perfluorochemical is prepared by perfluorinating the corresponding partially fluorinated compound which may have unsaturated hydrocarbon moiety, only with molecular fluorine in a stoichiometric excess amount in an inert solvent. The perfluorochemical is used for preparing a stable emulsion as blood substitutes or perfusion media.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1992
Date of Patent: May 25, 1993
    Assignee: The Green Cross Corporation

  • Patent number: 4173654
Abstract: Novel fluorohydrocarbons include a fluoroalkyl unit terminating in a tertiary carbon atom which is directly linked to an aliphatic moiety of the compound. The compounds contain at least 9 carbon atoms and usually no more than 13 carbon atoms. The compounds are synthesized by addition of a fluoride atom to the tertiary carbon atom of a fluorocarbon material to form a carbanion followed by alkylation of the carbanion. The fluorohydrocarbons will find use as blood substitutes or as electronic fluids.
