Patent number: 10867627Abstract: An apparatus comprises a microwave-assisted magnetic recording slider body. The body includes a write pole, a trailing shield, a spin torque oscillator, and an amplifying structure. The write pole extends from the air bearing surface into the slider body for a first distance, and the trailing shield extends from the air bearing surface into the slider body for a second distance. The spin torque oscillator is disposed proximate and between the write pole and the trailing shield at the air bearing surface and extends into the slider body for a third distance that is less than the first and second distances. The amplifying structure comprises a stepped portion and a gap, is recessed from the air bearing surface and disposed proximate the spin torque oscillator. The gap has a first interface with the write pole and a second interface with the trailing shield, wherein at least one of the first and second interfaces forms the stepped portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2019Date of Patent: December 15, 2020Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Kirill Aleksandrovich Rivkin, Javier Ignacio Guzman, Mourad Benakli

The magnetic write transduce includes a yoke extending in a direction normal to a media-facing surface and a having an edge facing and recessed from the media-facing surface. A write pole extends beyond the first end of the yoke towards the media-facing surface and overlaps a first surface of the yoke that faces the near-field transducer. The write pole has a stepped edge facing away from the media-facing surface. Two or more coil turns are stacked relative to one another in a down-track direction. The two or more coils face a second surface of the yoke that is opposed to the first surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2017Date of Patent: February 12, 2019Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Mourad Benakli, Kirill Aleksandrovich Rivkin, Huaqing Yin, Hua Zhou, Tae-Woo Lee

Patent number: 9934795Abstract: A recording head has a near-field transducer at a media-facing surface of the recording head and a write pole on a first side of the near field transducer. A first coil induces a first flux in the write pole. The recording head includes a shield on a second side of the near-field transducer that faces away from the first side. A second coil is proximate the shield and induces a second flux in the shield that controls a field angle of the first flux.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2017Date of Patent: April 3, 2018Assignee: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Kirill Aleksandrovich Rivkin, Mourad Benakli, Hua Zhou, Huaqing Yin, Tae-Woo Lee

Patent number: 9449618Abstract: A microwave assisted magnetic recording system includes a write pole that generates a write magnetic field, an element that generates a radio frequency assist magnetic field, and a recording medium that moves relative to the write pole. The recording medium is exposed to the radio frequency assist magnetic field before it is exposed to the write magnetic field. One possible element that generates the radio frequency assist magnetic field is an assist wire placed perpendicular to the write pole. Alternatively, the assist wire can be placed parallel to the write pole so that its radio frequency assist magnetic field couples with the write pole, which in turn generates its own coupled radio frequency magnetic field along with the write magnetic field.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2009Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Kirill Aleksandrovich Rivkin, Ned Tabat
