  • Publication number: 20100094793
Abstract: Systems and methods for product description transformation use information about a specific Target Workflow that will be used to execute a job (Process Network), such as print job in a print shop. A knowledge/rule based system can mine facts from the Target Workflow and evaluate those facts using a knowledge base that will infer constraints and other information to be used during the actual transformation step. Differences between what is specified in a Product Description, such as a JDF Intent, and a Target Workflow can be reconciled to produce a workflow to manufacture a product. This information about the Target Workflow along with the information it uses from the JDF Intent (Product Description) is used to produce a Process Network (Workflow Plan/job) consistent with the JDF Intent and Target Workflow.

  • Patent number: 7454397
Abstract: A system and method for classifying a print product description in a print shop vocabulary. Initially, a system of classification having a set of classifications, such as product classes, in a print shop vocabulary is provided in an automated system with classification rules for classifying the product description under a classification. Once the product description is determined, a facts collector in the automated system collects facts concerning classifying the print product. A rules-engine applies the classification rules to the collected facts to classify the product description under at least one classification in accordance with classification rules. The classification(s) under which the product description has been classified is/are then determined. The product description can be classified according to the determined classification(s) as required.

  • Patent number: 7406357
Abstract: Product descriptions (e.g., brochures) and processing instructions required to create a product (impose, print, fold, staple) can be abstracted into common vocabularies that link one to the other. A link from a product description to the processing instructions is made. A set of pre-defined templates containing specific processing instructions can be selected. Templates representing the processing instructions have a set of capabilities for the process network described. Templates representing the processing instructions can associate a set of well-defined queries regarding the product description, answers to which are used to complete process templates. A System of Classification when constructed can be used to classify a vocabulary to describe products and a separate vocabulary to describe required processing for the product(s). Once a System of Classification is established, templates for various product classes can be created.
