  • Patent number: 6065810
Abstract: A vehicular seat assembly includes a seat bottom defining an occupant sitting area and a seat back defining an occupant back support and coupled to the seat bottom. A shoulder belt restraint is operatively connected to the seat back for restraining an occupant in the seat assembly. A telescoping tower is mounted to the seat back for selectively adjusting the shoulder belt restraint between a lower position immediately adjacent the seat back and a raised position spaced vertically from the seat back. A tower cover is fixedly secured to at least a portion of the tower and vertically movable therewith. The tower cover includes an expandable window portion coupled between the tower and the seat back for automatically expanding coverage of the tower upon movement of the tower between the lower position and the raised position.

  • Patent number: 5964505
Abstract: An adjustable headrest assembly including a mounting post for mounting the headrest assembly to a vertically adjustable tower. The headrest including an elongated body portion extending horizontally between first and second ends and defining a tubular opening for receiving a mounting post for securing the headrest to the tower. A cavity is integrally formed in the first end of the body portion and a ratchet mechanism is disposed in the cavity for pivoting the headrest in both the forward and rearward direction. The ratchet mechanism including a ratchet pivotally support by the mounting post and a rack having a plurality of rack teeth mounted along an arcuate path in the cavity of the headrest body. The assembly further including a tower cover including an expandable window portion connected between the tower and the seat back for automatically expanding coverage of the tower upon movement of the tower between a lower position and a raised position.

  • Patent number: 5895090
Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly with integrated safety restraint belts includes a bottom frame and a backrest frame. The backrest frame is pivotally connected to the bottom frame by first and second pivot elements. The first and second pivot elements may include motor driven actuator screws for remotely controlling the pivoted position of the backrest frame under power. The bottom frame includes first and second side rails for mounting to the floor panel and permitting forward-rearward sliding adjustment of the seat position. The first and second side rails each have cuff at their rearward ends to rigidify the first and second side rails so that they can better withstand elevated forces occurring during instances of sudden deceleration. The integrated safety restraint belt includes a shoulder strap segment connected to the upper end of the backrest frame, above the first pivot element, and a lap strap segment.

  • Patent number: 5879055
Abstract: An automotive seat assembly including a seat bottom and a seat back pivotally attached to the seat bottom. The seat back includes a rigid seat back frame supporting a contoured foam cushion encapsulated in a trim cover material. A semi-rigid back panel, having a main body portion and a pair of side portions, is mounted to the rear of the seat back to conceal the rear surface of the seat back frame. A pair of guide members are mounted to the seat back frame and a pair of positioners are mounted to the back panel for alignment and engagement with the guide members. The positioners have an opening for sliding around the guide members as the back panel is positioned onto the seat back frame. A fastening member is also secured to the seat back frame. The back panel also includes a receiving portion mounted adjacent the bottom of the back panel for encapsulating the fastening member which closes any gaps formed between the bottom of the back panel and the seat back frame.
