Abstract: A system to facilitate communication of a critical signal between functional circuitries of a system-on-chip utilizes a dynamic pattern to securely communicate the critical signal. The system includes selection and comparison circuits. The selection circuit is configured to select and output a set of dynamic pattern bits or a set of fixed reference bits, based on a logic state of the critical signal that is received from one functional circuitry. The comparison circuit is configured to output an output signal based on the set of dynamic pattern bits, and a set of intermediate bits that is derived from the set of dynamic pattern bits or the set of fixed reference bits. The output signal is provided to the other functional circuitry when a logic state of the output signal matches the logic state of the critical signal, thereby securely communicating the critical signal to the other functional circuitry.

Abstract: Implementations relate to systems and methods for localized notification that provide localized information to one or more mobile devices in a wireless communication system that are located in one or more geographical regions. The wireless communication system includes a localized notification server that responds to geographically-targeted broadcast requests and localized service or information requests. The localized notification server localizes components of the wireless communication system into sets of localized components that provide wireless communication service to mobile devices in the specific geographical regions. In response to a request to broadcast to a target geographical region, the localized notification server identifies a set of localized components associated with the target geographical region. The localized notification server then broadcasts information to mobile devices actively serviced by the set of localized components.

Abstract: A cellular telephone including a medical device to monitor the medical or health condition of a user is provided. The cellular telephone is provided with a keypad that is movable from a first position, where a first display and keypad is exposed, to a second position where a second display and keypad is exposed. In the first position, the cellular telephone operates in a conventional cellular telephone manner. In the second position, the cellular telephone operates as the medical device. The second display and/or keypad is hidden from public view when the keypad is in the first position.

Abstract: A remote station apparatus comprises a transmit/receive circuit that is operable to transmit/receive signals to/from a communications network. A control processor receives signals from the transmit/receive circuit, the signals comprising an audio signal to be provided to a user through a user interface. The control processor is operable to modify the audio signal to shift, compress, and/or amplify one or more frequency bands based on predetermined audio signal modification parameters prior to providing the audio signal to the user interface. The audio signal modification parameters may be determined based on the user's hearing ability and/or preferences.

The health records may be stored at the remote station, or at a server. An individual requests access to the health records, the identity of the individual is authenticated, and authorization of the individual is verified before providing the health record. The authentication may comprise a biometric identification.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method, system, and apparatus for transparently backing-up information from a mobile device to distributed devices having storage capabilities. As the mobile device comes within communication range of one or more of the trusted partner devices, information from the mobile device is backed up, in segments or portions, on the one or more distributed partner devices. Information backed-up in one partner device may be transferred to another partner device for storage. A centralized master server may also maintain a list of the locations (e.g., partner devices) where backup information is maintained for the mobile device. When requested to do so by a user, the centralized server can retrieve and consolidate the backup information for the mobile device.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for implementing a intelligent meeting scheduler that accounts for the travel time and distances of the meeting participants. Some features of the meeting scheduling system include (1) scheduling meetings, (2) calculating travel time to the meeting for each participant, (3) adjusting individual participants schedules to include travel time and travel conditions, (4) determining scheduling conflicts, (5) suggesting scheduling dates, times, and/or locations, and/or (6) providing each meeting participant with timely notifications with sufficient time to arrive at the scheduled meeting.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are provided for implementing resource and/or location-based matching services between a wireless terminal (e.g., mobile phone) user and one or more resources. A novel infrastructure supports resource and/or location based matching services over a wireless network. A back-end system includes a database, server, and match engine that are configured match a user with one or more resources based on the user's characteristics, preferences, and/or location. Such resources include (1) other users, (2) targeted advertising, (3) businesses/networking opportunities, and/or (4) locate a nearby service or store. A flexible database architecture supports application-specific resources which facilitate the deployment of various matching services. Application developers are thus able to implement different resource-matching applications for wireless devices through a common back-end infrastructure.

Abstract: A close-loop quality of service system is provided that collects real-time network performance indicators at the physical, data link and network layers. Using those indicators, the system dynamically controls the network traffic in order to achieve improved performance according to the priority and policy defined by a data user or system/network administrator. Several features of this quality of service system includes (1) dynamic maximum bandwidth reallocation, (2) dynamic maximum packet sizing, (3) adaptive policing, and/or (4) real-time link status feedbacks to make more efficient use of available bandwidth and adjust to transmission requirements.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a location based service to create a social network, comprising activating a feature from a wireless terminal, registering from the wireless terminal with a location based service associated with the feature, creating a profile of a user of the feature, and displaying advertising based on the profile and based on geographic location of the wireless terminal. A Global Positioning System (GPS) may be used to geographically locate active users of a feature and sponsors of advertising. Advertising is displayed based on geographic location of the wireless terminal and sponsor(s) of the advertising being represented on an activity map.

Abstract: A system and method for providing a location based service to create a social network, comprising activating a feature from a wireless terminal, registering from the wireless terminal with a location based service associated with the feature, creating a profile of a user of the feature, and displaying candidates based on the profile and based on the geographic location of the candidates. A Global Positioning System (GPS) may be used to geographically locate active users of a feature. An activity map may be associated with a feature, the activity map displaying active users of the feature.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for downloading a hyper text transfer protocol (HTTP) web page over a wireless link that couples a modem to a gateway. A transmission control protocol (TCP) link is opened between the gateway and the modem. A HTTP uniform resource identifier (URI) is received at the modem from a web browser, where the HTTP URI corresponds to the HTTP web page of an origin server. The TCP link is configured well before the web browser provides the URI. The HTTP URI is sent to the gateway. An Internet protocol (IP) address is determined for a domain name indicated in the HTTP URI by the gateway. The HTTP web page is retrieved by the gateway using the Internet, without the modem requesting it. The HTTP web page is transmitted to the satellite modem. Objects referenced in the HTTP web page are accessed similarly to the HTTP web page, but objects can also be accessed in parallel. In some cases, bandwidth is scaled for the TCP link according to loading of the modem.

Abstract: A content gathering system for providing a content object to a web browser is disclosed. The content gathering system includes customer premises equipment (CPE), a gateway remote to the CPE, and a satellite link that couples them together. The CPE includes a first cache, and the gateway includes a second cache. In at least one of the CPE and the gateway, a parameterization filter that masks differences between a first URI of the content object and a second URI of a cached content object that is stored in at least one of the first or second cache.

The aligning sleeve member 24 receives a portion of the ferrule 22 including an abutting end face 48 inside a bore 58 to prevent staining and damage and uses a movable shutter 54 to prevent light emitted through the ferrule 22 from leaking to the outside. The socket type optical connector 14 is provided with a ferrule 92 and a holding section 94. The optical connector 14 is not provided with an aligning sleeve member and further can hold a coated optical fiber by a holding section 94 behind the ferrule 92 by a radius of curvature of at least a prescribed minimum radius of curvature. Optical loss in the coated optical fiber can be reduced while effectively reducing the external dimensions in the direction of extension of the ferrule 92 at the time of use.
