  • Patent number: 9583991
Abstract: A machine is provided including magnetic radial bearings to magnetically levitate a rotating shaft. Each of the magnetic radial bearings includes stator magnet groups. Each of the stator magnet groups includes stator magnets. Each of the stator magnet groups is operatively configured to fully support the rotating shaft independently of each other stator magnet group of the stator magnet groups so that the machine continues to operate with the failure of one or more components of the machine.

Date of Patent: February 28, 2017
Inventors: Victor Iannello, Christopher Sortore, Robert Jett Field, Kirk Treubert
  • Patent number: 8330311
Abstract: A machine is provided, including a magnetic thrust bearing having a rotor portion, a stator portion, and a housing. The housing substantially surrounds the stator portion and the rotor portion. The rotor portion includes a thrust disk adapted to be circumferentially attached to a rotor and to rotate with the rotor. The thrust disk defines a thrust disk first side and a thrust disk second side, the first side being opposite to the second side.

  • Patent number: 7687948
Abstract: Certain exemplary embodiments comprise a system, which can comprise a radial magnetic bearing static portion. The radial magnetic bearing static portion can comprise a plurality of electromagnets. The radial magnetic bearing static portion can comprise a plurality of pulse width modulated amplifiers, each of which can be adapted to provide electrical energy to a corresponding electromagnet of the plurality of electromagnets.
