In alternative embodiments, anti-BRAF V600E antibodies as provided herein are used together with an agent for determining whether MLH1 expression or activity is reduced or absent. In further alternative embodiments, anti-BRAF V600E antibodies as provided herein are used together with antibodies which specifically bind at least one protein selected from the group consisting of MLH1, PMS2, MSH2 and MSH6 to differentiate between Sporadic Colorectal Cancer (CRC) and probable Lynch syndrome.
