  • Patent number: 5366691
Abstract: A hyper-eutectic aluminum-silicon powder containing extremely fine primary crystal silicon, is prepared by atomizing. First, a molten metal of a hyper-eutectic aluminum-silicon alloy containing phosphorus is prepared. This molten metal or melt is atomized with air or an inert gas and quench-solidified. Aluminum-silicon alloy powder containing primary crystal silicon of not more than 10 .mu.m in crystal grain size is obtained. This aluminum-silicon alloy powder contains at least 12 percent by weight and not more than 50 percent by weight of silicon and at least 0.0005 percent by weight and not more than 0.1 percent by weight of phosphorus. When this hyper-eutectic aluminum-silicon alloy powder is employed, it is possible to prepare a consolidate of powder which has improved mechanical properties, and provides a high yield.

  • Patent number: 5199971
Abstract: The present invention relates to parts, such as a drive gear and driven gear, for use in a rotary gear pump exhibiting good sliding characteristics against a pump case made of light metals such as aluminum alloys. These parts are obtained by subjecting aluminum alloy powders, which have been solidified at a cooling rate of 100.degree. C./sec or more, or aluminum alloy powders having particle diameters of 350 .mu.m or less, to powder compacting and hot extrusion and optionally further to hot forging, or subjecting the aluminum alloy powders to powder forging.

  • Patent number: 4838936
Abstract: Spiral parts, such as orbiting and fixed scroll plates having involute wraps, for use in scroll compressors, the parts having low coefficient of thermal expansion and high tensile strength and Young's modulus, are formed by combining a self-lubricating power into aluminum raw material powder prior to compression and forging. As an alternative to and in conjunction with the foregoing, temperatures during preform heating and in the die for forging are controlled to be in respective ranges of 300.degree. to 500.degree. C. and 150.degree. to 500.degree. C. Aluminum alloy fine powder preferably has a particle diameter no larger than 350 .mu.m. The self-lubricating powder preferably forms 1 to 25% of the mix by volume, and contains at least one member selected from the group consisting of graphite, BN, and MoS.sub.2.
