  • Patent number: 5845936
Abstract: In order to achieve the curtailment of costs by simplifying the manufacture of parts, the custody of parts and the assembling work, a vertically movable bracket of a tilt mechanism, a mounting bracket for mounting combination switches, and a cylinder bracket of a steering lock mechanism are all formed integrally with an outer column. Also, when the tilt mechanism is omitted, a fixed bracket and the outer column are formed integrally with each other.

  • Patent number: 5605351
Abstract: In order to enhance the support rigidity of a steering column and moreover make the height dimension of a height adjusting mechanism small to thereby make it difficult for the steering column to interfere with a driver's knees, when the height position of a steering wheel is to be fixed, a tilt bolt is fastened by a tilt lever and as a result, the spacing between a fore end surface and the inner side of the tip end portion of a first hold-down arm portion constituting a hold-down bracket is shortened, and the inner sides of fixed plate portion constituting a fixed bracket hold-down the steering column from the left and right sides thereof. During the adjustment of the height, the tilt bolt is loosened and first and second restraining pins are moved along slots.

  • Patent number: 5174425
Abstract: A steering angle detecting device has an intermediate shaft comprising a first shaft and a second shaft, and a clutch provided between the first and second shafts for disengaging both the shafts from each other. A steering angle sensor is operated by a steering shaft through gears and the intermediate shaft. The clutch is disengaged and the steering angle sensor is set to a neutral position. The adjusted steering angle sensor is attached to a steering column and the input shaft is operatively connected to the steering shaft positioned at a neutral position thereof. Thereafter, the clutch is engaged, so that the input shaft of the sensor can be rotated by the steering shaft.

  • Patent number: 5143402
Abstract: The tilt position of a steering device can be freely adjusted by changing the engagement position of facing sets of gear teeth. A pair of supporting plates each provided with a circular arc-shaped long hole is attached to the lower part of a steering column, and a shaft is received and freely movable (by operation of a tilt lever) within the long holes. The shaft is movable between positions for engagement and release of the gears, while being supported within the long holes of the plates.
