  • Patent number: 4911120
Abstract: A lubrication system for engines, comprising a main engine body with a crank chamber formed at the bottom portion thereof for storing lubricating oil therein, a rocker cover securely attached to the outside wall of the engine body so as to surround a rocker arm, thereby forming therein a rocker chamber, lubricating oil supply means for supplying the lubricating oil into the rocker chamber, lubricating oil return means for returning the lubricating oil in the rocker chamber to the crank chamber, a breather device intercommunicating between the crank chamber and a suction system, and bypass means for intercommunicating through the breather device between the crank chamber and the rocker chamber. The bypass means causes the gas under pressure in the crank chamber to flow into the rocker chamber and the lubricating oil supplied into the rocker chamber, is forcibly discharged into the crank chamber through the lubricating oil return means.

  • Patent number: 4909200
Abstract: A starter for a general purpose engine has a starting motor with an armature shaft disposed in axial alignment with the engine crankshaft. The armature shaft is coupled via a planetary gear set to an intermediate shaft, also in axial alignment with the engine crankshaft, which is coupled to the engine crankshaft via an overrunning clutch. This clutch permits the engine crankshaft to overrun the intermediate shaft after the engine is started. Having a pull rope wound thereon, a starting reel is rotatably and coaxially supported over the intermediate shaft. A centrifugal clutch normally holds the starting reel disconnected from the engine crankshaft and, upon rotation of the starting reel as a result of exertion of a manual pull on the pull rope, drivingly connects the starting reel to the engine crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 4672930
Abstract: A decompression apparatus for an engine has a valve releasing lever comprising a shaft and a weight secured to the shaft. The shaft has a large diameter portion, reduced portion formed in the large diameter portion, small diameter portion adjacent the reduced portion. A cam gear formed on a camshaft has a first hole in which the large diameter portion is rotatably mounted, second hole in which the reduced portion and small diameter portion can be inserted, slit connecting both the first and second holes. The slit has a width for allowing the reduced portion of the large diameter portion to pass the slit, whereby the releasing lever is attached to the cam gear by inserting the small diameter portion and reduced portion in the second hole and passing the reduced portion through the slit to engage the large diameter portion with the first hole.

  • Patent number: 4627521
Abstract: A system for braking an engine is provided with a brake drum in the form of an annular projection formed on a side of a flywheel secured to a crankshaft of the engine. A pair of brake shoes are provided inside of the brake drum, and an end of each brake shoe is rotatably supported on a supporting plate. A spring is provided between the brake shoes to contract the shoes. A cam is rotatably provided on the supporting plate to be engaged with the other end of each brake shoe. A lever is connected to the cam and a spring is provided to urge the lever in the direction to expand the brake shoes. The lever is held by a brake operating device in the contracting state of the brake shoes.
