Patent number: 5240745Abstract: An object having three-dimensional surfaces such as an automotive vehicle body is painted by painting mechanisms movable along a transfer path near the object. Each of the painting mechanisms has a plurality of paint spray guns displaceable dependent on the surfaces to be painted, the paint spray guns being adjustably located at optimum distances and angles with respect to the surfaces to be painted for applying a uniform paint coat to the object. No paint runs and sags will be formed on the coated surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1991Date of Patent: August 31, 1993Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Tohru Yamamoto, Tadashi Takeo, Kiyohiro Ichinose, Syogo Ozawa, Kenji Fujii, Saburo Fujii, Mashayuki Enomoto, Ichiro Ishibashi, Junichi Murayama

Patent number: 5103761Abstract: A plurality of paint spray guns are directed substantially perpendicularly toward respective vertically divided surfaces of a side panel of a workpiece such as an automotive body. The paint spray guns are spaced in a direction in which the workpiece is delivered and being disposed at different heights, respectively. Paint sprays are ejected from the paint spray guns toward the workpiece which is being delivered in the direction. Simultaneously, the paint spray guns are displaced back and forth perpendicularly to the direction and substantially parallel to the surfaces of the side panel to coat the surface respectively with the paint spray guns, thereby coating the side panel.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1990Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Ichirou Ishibashi, Kiyohiro Ichinose, Toru Yamamoto, Toshikazu Kashida

Patent number: 5014644Abstract: An automotive body delivered in a direction, and covers such as an engine hood and a trunk lid and doors of the automotive body are opened and held in an open position. Thereafter, prescribed areas of the automotive body are coated, and those doors which are located downstream with respect to the direction in which the automotive body is delivered and those areas of the automotive body which correspond to those doors which are located upstream with respect to the same direction, are coated. Thereafter, the covers and the doors of the automotive body are closed.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1989Date of Patent: May 14, 1991Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Toru Yamamoto, Daizo Shiga, Kenichi Chujyo, Eiji Kikuchi, Masayuki Enomoto, Masaaki Syoji, Kiyohiro Ichinose, Kyuya Yamazaki

Patent number: 4830882Abstract: Paint spray guns are cleaned in respective cleaning tanks. In each of the cleaning tanks, a cleaning fluid is ejected to the nozzle end of the paint spray gun by a plurality of cleaning guns disposed in the cleaning tank. The paint spray guns and the cleaning tanks are relatively movable so that the cleaning tanks are retracted away when the paint spray guns spray a paint coat over a desired object such as a vehicle body. Each of the cleaning tanks includes two flexible cover members having holes for inserting the paint spray gun therethrough. The cover members and the inserted paint spray gun close a cleaning chamber defined in the cleaning tank to prevent the cleaning fluid from leaking out. Each cleaning tank comprises a base plate and a casing detachably mounted on the base plate and defining the cleaning chamber.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1987Date of Patent: May 16, 1989Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kiyohiro Ichinose, Niichi Toyama, Tohru Yamamoto, Eiji Kikuchi, Masao Fukuda

Patent number: 4738013Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for attaching a ring-like part to the outer periphery of a columnar material, as, for example, in the assembling of a catalytic converter. The columnar material is positioned and supported with its axis oriented horizontally. A guide member is supported from the side to position it adjacent to the columnar material on the same axis as the columnar material. The guide member has an outer inclined surface enlarged towards the columnar material. The guide member is then supported in the axial direction and at the same time, has the side support thereof released. The ring-like part is then pushed while guiding it on the outer inclined surface of the guide member to fit it over a portion of the columnar material. The pushing of the ring-like part is released and then the guide member is again supported from the sides, while at the same time, the support thereof from the axial direction is released.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1986Date of Patent: April 19, 1988Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Sachihiro Yamashita, Masayuki Enomoto, Ichiro Ishibashi, Kiyohiro Ichinose, Mitsuki Nakamura

Patent number: 4667386Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for assembling an insert assembly in a catalytic converter comprising a casing and an insert assembly therein. The insert assembly comprises a columnar catalyst having a seal mat wound around the outer periphery thereof and a mesh ring attached thereto. The seal mat is fitted in a groove provided in a receiving member for the placement of a catalyst and the catalyst is placed and positioned, with its axis substantially horizontal, on the receiving member. A guide member is positioned adjacent to the catalyst on the same axis as the catalyst and supported from the sides thereof, the guide member having an outer inclined surface enlarged towards the catalyst. The mesh ring is positioned on the same axis as the catalyst on the side of the guide member opposite to the side of the catalyst. The opposite end of the seal mat are engaged to wind the seal mat around the catalyst and the mesh ring is resiliently supported from the outside thereof.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1986Date of Patent: May 26, 1987Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masayuki Enomoto, Ichiro Ishibashi, Sachihiro Yamashita, Kiyohiro Ichinose, Toshiharu Kano
