  • Publication number: 20110173479
Abstract: A data processing apparatus according to the present invention is capable of writing video and/or audio data to a storage medium. The data processing apparatus includes: a power controller for controlling powering on or off; a signal processing circuit for generating data; and a drive section for writing the generated data to the storage medium. In response to a powering-off instruction, the power controller stops supplying power to the drive section but continues to supply power to the signal processing circuit and the power controller itself. Since hardware elements remain energized, they do not need to perform initialization operations when the apparatus is powered on. Similarly, corresponding software elements are also in an operable state, and therefore do not need to perform initialization processes. Therefore, the signal processing circuit can immediately start processing thereafter.

  • Patent number: 6469719
Abstract: A layout unit refers to a plurality of menu items stored in a menu item information storage unit by a menu item information obtaining unit. The following processes are performed as necessary to display a large number of menu items in a predetermined part of a GUI screen. A character size reducing unit reduces the size of characters used to display menu items. A margin reducing unit determines the layout of menu items so as to reduce the margins in menu items. An abbreviating unit replaces certain character strings in menu items with shorter character strings. In this way, the layout unit determines the layout of menu items. A menu control unit then has the menu items displayed in accordance with the layout determined by the layout unit.

  • Patent number: 6292226
Abstract: A broadcast reception apparatus is provided with a reception unit for receiving broadcast data as a transport stream. The transport stream includes video data and a plurality of navigation information sequences. Each navigation information sequence includes navigation information which includes graphics data to be combined with the video data for display. A TS (Transport Stream) decoder unit extracts the video data and navigation information from the transport stream. A reception control unit controls the TS decoder unit so that the TS decoder unit extracts navigation information from a navigation information sequence which is suitable for the the broadcast reception apparatus. A navigation information storage unit stores the navigation information extracted by the TS decoder unit.

  • Patent number: 6292937
Abstract: A program conversion device includes a formal initialization expression generating unit, an actual initialization expression generating unit, and an object generation statement translating unit. The formal initialization expression generating unit focuses on a definition of an object generation function written in a source program and generates, if the object generation function does not perform any processing other than setting values in member variables of an object, a formal initialization expression which is the member variables represented by formal parameters. The actual initialization expression generating unit focuses on an object generation statement and generates, if a formal initialization expression that corresponds to an object generation function to be invoked by the object generation statement has been generated, an actual initialization expression.

  • Patent number: 5983247
Abstract: A data conversion apparatus is provided for reading a document for a display screen and generating a display image for another display screen which has a different aspect ratio from the former display screen, where the document is composed of control statements written along with character strings or image information. The data conversion apparatus obtains the document from an external unit and converts the character strings and the image information in the document into display image elements based on conversion information. The data conversion apparatus judges whether a storage includes a blank for storing the display image elements at an appropriate position based on the conversion information.

  • Patent number: 5930808
Abstract: A data conversion apparatus is provided as a data transmitting apparatus in a data communication system which achieves pseudo interactive communications by using one-way communications between the data transmitting apparatus and a plurality of data receiving apparatuses. The data conversion apparatus converts documents stored inside into images to be displayed on the screen, such as a TV screen. In doing so, if the document includes character strings or image information as link destination information which specifies another document as a link destination, the data conversion apparatus adds a supplementary design into the image of the link destination information for the viewer to recognize such information.

  • Patent number: 5708787
Abstract: A menu display device for indicating a relationship between a series of linked menu items that are listed in separate menus and displayed sequentially on a display screen to be selected by a cursor is disclosed. The plurality of menus are appropriately stored, and each menu item has a design for identifying their respective menu items. The menu items are connected so as to form a linked structure of the menus, and the linkage is also stored. A menu item display control unit is provided for retrieving the next menu, which is related to a selected menu item and for having that retrieved menu displayed by the display screen. A marker design generation unit can generate a new design, which includes at least a portion of the design for the menu item that was selected in the previous menu to thereby indicate, by the appearance of the cursor, a path through the linked menus.
