  • Publication number: 20030200958
Abstract: An evaporative fuel processing system for an in-cylinder injection type internal combustion engine includes an evaporative fuel processing mechanism that includes a canister to which an evaporative fuel in a fuel supply system is adsorbed and performs an operation for purging the adsorbed evaporative fuel into an intake system of the internal combustion engine. The system further includes a controller that estimates a degree of dilution occurred in a lubricating oil for the internal combustion engine with a fuel mixed therewith, and inhibits the purging operation performed by the evaporative fuel processing mechanism when the estimated degree of dilution is equal to or larger than a predetermined value.

  • Publication number: 20030200952
Abstract: A fuel injection mode is flexibly controlled according to the actual extent of adverse effects on an internal combustion engine from both deterioration of exhaust gas emissions and fuel dilution caused by fuel adhering to the piston top face and the cylinder inner peripheral face. A dilution degree counter value C is counted up when a coolant temperature at engine startup THWST and an intake air quantity sum value after engine startup GASUM are each equal to, or less than, respective predetermined values. A fuel dilution flag is set to “ON” when the dilution degree counter value C is equal to, or greater than, a predetermined value CH. A fuel injection timing of an intake stroke injection is changed to a timing on the advance side when this fuel dilution flag is “ON.

  • Publication number: 20030056764
Abstract: It is highly likely that fuel is already adhered to the inside wall surface of the combustion chamber at the beginning of engine startup when it is estimated that the temperature at the beginning of engine stop of the most recent engine operation is low when the engine is restarted. Under these conditions, a fuel injection quantity is reduced or an intake air quantity is increased when the engine is restarted. Therefore, even if the adhered fuel vaporizes when the engine is restarted, the air-fuel ratio will not become excessively rich as a result.

  • Patent number: 6453865
Abstract: The technique of the present invention reduces or even omits potential shocks and vibrations arising due to the coupling action of a coupling mechanism at the time of starting an internal combustion engine, and ensures a quick restart of the internal combustion engine. In a vehicle with an idling stop control apparatus of the present invention mounted thereon, a control unit inputs an inverted phase current Eon, which is determined according to the energy absorbing state of a transmission belt, into an auxiliary machinery driving electric motor, so as to brake rotations of the auxiliary machinery driving electric motor. After the input of the inverted phase current Eon into the auxiliary machinery driving electric motor, the control unit couples an electromagnetic clutch to link a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine with the auxiliary machinery driving electric motor. The value of the inverted phase current Eon is varied according to the energy absorbing state of the transmission belt.

  • Publication number: 20020056440
Abstract: A control apparatus for suppressing vibrations of an engine when combustion is stopped. The control apparatus maintains an engine rotational speed at a reference rotational speed for a reference time when the combustion of the engine is automatically stopped. This results in a reduction in pressure in a combustion chamber of the engine. The control apparatus gradually reduces the rotational speed of the crankshaft, and stops the crankshaft before the rotational speed of the crankshaft reaches a resonant speed. In this way, the resonance and increased pressure in the combustion chamber are prevented to reduce vibrations of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5916130
Abstract: After an elapse of a predetermined time period or after a run of a predetermined distance, a power output system of the present invention heats a catalytic converter with a catalyst heater while enabling an engine to be driven under a driving condition suitable for checking a catalyst packed in the catalytic converter for deterioration of the catalytic function. The power output system then measures a variation in temperature of the catalyst in this state and determines whether or not the variation is within a normal range, thereby detecting the deteriorating catalytic function of the catalyst, that is, abnormality of the catalytic converter. This structure enables the power output system to realize accurate detection of abnormality of the catalytic converter at a sufficient frequency. During the measurement of the temperature change of the catalyst, an assist motor is driven and controlled to output a torque Td* corresponding to a step-on amount of an accelerator pedal to a drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 5826671
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine of a hybrid vehicle, a transient driving state occurs at a high frequency. It is rather difficult to control the quantity of fuel due to an adhesion of the fuel on the wall surface in the transient driving state. This results in insufficient reduction of the emission in the transient driving state. The object is thus to provide a vehicle control apparatus that can realize the effective reduction of emission. The vehicle control apparatus receives vehicle information (S200) and determines, based on the input vehicle information, whether or not the state of the vehicle should be shifted from either a combination mode or an internal combustion engine mode to a motor mode, that is, whether or not operation of an internal combustion engine EG is going to stop (S202). When such a mode shift is required, it is determined whether or not a specific warm-up condition is satisfied (S204).

  • Patent number: 5818116
Abstract: A starting control apparatus of the present invention prevents a variation in output torque of an internal combustion engine at a time of starting the internal combustion engine, while effectively reducing an emission. In response to a requirement for starting an engine (150) (S212), a controller (180) calculates an idle revolving speed Ni that is a target at a starting time and a required amount of the air Qi for maintaining the idle revolving speed Ni (S213). The idle revolving speed Ni and the required amount of the air Qi are respectively set equal to a target engine speed Ne* and a target amount of air intake Q* (S214). The controller (180) sets torque command values Tm1* and Tm2* of first and second motors MG1 and MG2, in order to enable the motors MG1 and MG2 to generate a cranking torque required for revolving the engine (150) at the target revolving speed Ne* (S216 and S218), and controls the first motor MG1 and the second motor MG2 (S220 and S222).

  • Patent number: 4825836
Abstract: A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine provided with a turbo-charger and an ignition retard control system responsive to a signal from knocking sensor for controlling knocking. A system is provided for attaining a fuel enrichment correction at a predetermined range of engine conditions for preventing an increase in a temperature of the exhaust gas. The enrichment is delayed for a predetermined period after moving into that range, to obtain a high fuel economy. A system is further provided for cancelling the enrichment delay when the engine is under a particular condition where the exhaust gas temperature is very apt to be increased. Such a condition is detected by an enrichment correction value or ignition retard correction value which is larger than a threshold value.
