  • Patent number: 4176146
Abstract: A process for preparing a curable coating resin comprising the steps of hydrogenating selectively the double bonds of a resin produced from a five-membered cyclic compound such as dicyclopentadiene and an unsaturated hydroxyl group-containing compound such as allyl alcohol and then esterifying the thus hydrogenated hydroxyl group-containing resin with acrylic and/or methacrylic acid thereby to obtain a curable coating resin; and a curable coating resin obtained by said process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 14, 1977
Date of Patent: November 27, 1979
Assignees: Nippon Oil Co., Ltd., Toyo Ink Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

  • Patent number: 4163763
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing curable resin which comprises reacting acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid [which is hereinafter cited as (metha-) acrylic acid] with hydroxyl group-containing resin (I) obtained by reacting a five-member cyclic compound having an unsaturated conjugated double bond represented by the general formula (A) given below; ##STR1## (WHEREIN R is an organic residue having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; m and n are integers and are in the relation of m+n=6) or the Diels-Alder addition product thereof (A) and a compound (B) having both reactive carbon-carbon double bond or bonds and towo or more hydroxyl groups within one and the same molecule thereof. In accordance with the present invention, curable coating composition comprising said curable resin can also be obtained. The resin of this invention can be very quickly cured by the exposure to heat or radiation.

  • Patent number: 4085085
Abstract: Curable coating compositions particularly suitable as a vehicle for printing inks, comprising a resin obtained by esterifying with acrylic or methacrylic acid a hydroxyl group-containing resin prepared either by reacting ingredients (A) and (B) to form a reaction mixture which is then reacted with ingredient (C) or by reacting the ingredients (A), (B) and (C). The ingredient (A) is a five-membered cyclic compound having conjugated double bonds or a Diels-Alder's reaction product thereof, the ingredient (B) a compound having both a polymerizable double bond and a hydroxyl group in the molecule and (C) a resol type phenolic resin.
