  • Patent number: 7469681
Abstract: A multi-cylinder engine wherein a direction in which a crank shaft spans is a front and rear direction and a widthwise direction of a cylinder head (1) perpendicular to the front and rear direction is a lateral direction, the multi-cylinder engine comprising the cylinder head (1) which has one lateral side to which an intake-air distributing passage wall (2) and has the other lateral side to which an exhaust-gas converging passage wall (3), a common rail (10) being arranged around the cylinder head (1). In this multi-cylinder engine, the common rail (10) is arranged immediately lateral of the intake-air distributing passage wall (2), thereby positioning the intake-air distributing passage wall (2) between the cylinder head (1) and the common rail (10). Preferably, an intake-air inlet pipe (11) is made to stand up at an upper portion of the intake-air distributing passage wall (2) and is provided with an intake-air flange portion (12), which is positioned just above the common rail (10).

  • Patent number: 6250281
Abstract: An entire peripheral surface of a port bent portion (5) of a direct intake port (2) has a peripheral side surface portion (11) close to a cylinder axis (10). The peripheral side surface portion (11) provides a projection (12) for deviating intake air current (A) from the peripheral side surface portion (11) toward an opposite peripheral side surface portion (13). Further, the bent portion (5) has a peripheral side surface portion (14) close to an upper end surface (9) of a cylinder chamber (8), which provides a projection (15) for deviating the intake air current (A). This projection (15) turns a direction of the intake air current (A) from a peripheral side surface portion (14) close to the upper end surface (9) of the cylinder chamber (8) toward an opposite peripheral side surface portion (16).

  • Patent number: 5961294
Abstract: A fuel injection device 23 adapted to be attached to an engine and provided with a pump case 1, a fuel injection pump 2, a fuel injection cam shaft 3, a connecting portion 5, an input end portion 6 of the fuel injection cam shaft 3 and a temporary holding means 10 is employed and the following procedures are carried out. Both, revolution of the fuel injection cam shaft 3 and of a crankshaft 17 is stopped. The pump case 1 is connected to an engine timing gear case 8, and engagements for a timing gear train 43 are carried out. Play in the timing gear train 43 is removed during the turning of the pump case 1 and the pump case 1 is fixedly secured to the timing gear case 8. Thereafter, of the fuel injection cam shaft 3 and the crankshaft 17 are released and allowed rotate.

  • Patent number: 5479888
Abstract: When viewing in parallel to a cylinder center axis (3), a combustion expanding gas injected from an injection hole (4) is adapted to form a pair of valve recesses (10), (11) located on the opposite sides of an injection axis (12) of the injection hole (4). A pair of valve recesses (10), (11) are formed concavely in a piston top surface (8) so as to be separately disposed on the opposite sides of the injection axis (12) of the injection hole (4). Respective swirl centers (14), (15) of a pair of swirling gas flows (6), (7) are located within the pair of valve recesses (10), (11).

  • Patent number: 4798183
Abstract: In a swirl chamber type combustion chamber for a diesel engine having an injection passage provided for to guide the stream of combustion gas gradually spreading right and left during the injection from the swirl chamber to the main combustion chamber, a top surface of a piston head is provided with a concavity formed in such a configuration as gradually spreading right and left as progressing from the inlet end to the outlet end thereof, for example like an unfolded-fan. And the inlet end of the concavity is located so as to face to the outlet of the injection passage. The stream of combustion gas injected from the injection passage is to be guided so as to be sufficiently diffused in the main combustion chamber by the concavity.
