Patent number: 4533064Abstract: A can or similar container usually equipped with a removable top cover includes a thin-foil partition that is detachably mounted over the open top of the can body, the thin-foil partition carrying a peripheral score or cut line and a straight score or cut line defining a semi-circular dispensing opening area, and a finger grip which allows the partition to be detached along the two score lines to provide a semi-circular dispensing opening. The partition is made of a thin film material, and includes a rivet-like hollow bulge integrally formed thereon, which is backed by a reinforcing filler member inside to solidify the hollow bulge. The finger grip is solidly secured to an appropriate position of the partition by means of the reinforced bulge, and pulling it up with a finger causes the semi-circular dispensing opening area of the partition to be detached apart from the can body. The straight-line cut edge left after the removal of the opening area serves as a scraper edge for smoothing the excess on a spoon.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1984Date of Patent: August 6, 1985Assignee: Nihon Seikan Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Kiyoshi Kawamata, Seizi Kawamata

Patent number: 4527045Abstract: An arc welder is provided with a phase control circuit by rectifying elements to simplify the construction of the arc welder and improve the performance and operability. The arc welder is further provided with a storage control circuit to enable the retrieval of stored data of the same welding conditions. A union/individual control circuit is provided to eliminate troublesome adjustment of potentiometers.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1981Date of Patent: July 2, 1985Assignee: Hitachi Seiko Ltd.Inventors: Jun Nakajima, Takeshi Araya, Tadashi Aso, Kiyoshi Kawamata, Kinji Sugimoto

Patent number: 4491236Abstract: A can with a can end plate provided with an opening score having a discontinuity at the center of the can end plate. A finger retainer tab is fixed to the scored region of the can end plate. The end portion of the finger retainer tab located at one side of the fixing portion constitutes a projectable portion which is projectable into the can during opening of the latter, while the other end located at the other side of the fixed portion constitutes a finger retainer portion. Projections serveable as a fulcrum are formed to project laterally outwardly from both side edges of the finger retainer tab so as to extend across the lines of the score. The can end plate is further provided with reinforcement ribs formed along linear side portions and discontinuity of the score. The terminating ends of the linear side portions of the score, determining the discontinuity, are bent toward or away from each other.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1981Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Inventor: Kiyoshi Kawamata

Patent number: 4438721Abstract: A can manufacturing method comprises applying a water-soluble resin sealing substance to the side and end seam edges of a can body blank and end plates, producing a thin layer of sealing substance on the side and end seam edges under hot drying atmospheres, seaming the side edges of the body blank including the end edges of the end plates to form a complete can, and subjecting the seamed portions to an applied heating to allow the layered sealing substance in the seamed portions to melt and unite the seamed portions. The apparatus permits a sealing substance to be applied on the side edges of a can body blank on the conveying path.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1981Date of Patent: March 27, 1984Assignee: Nihon Seikan Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kiyoshi Kawamata

Patent number: 4416576Abstract: A method of providing a can end plate with a score and a tab for facilitating the opening of the can. The method comprises the steps of lining the can end plate with a layer of a thermoplastic resin at at least one side thereof, forming a score in the can end plate through the layer of thermoplastic resin and attaching a tab member to the can end plate, and heating and pressing the thermoplastic resin to melt, press and charge the thermoplastic resin into the score while sealing the juncture between the tab member and the can end plate by means of the thermoplastic resin, thereby to completely eliminate any leak or exudation of the content through the score and the juncture between the tab member and the can end plate.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1981Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Inventor: Kiyoshi Kawamata

Patent number: 3977342Abstract: A method of manufacturing a metallic can formed like a case container, comprising forming a four-fold seamed edge portion by folding and seaming by adhesive means edges of a sheet for building a can body. The four-fold seamed edge portion is included in a curled and seamed portion which is formed by curling and pressing the flanged edge portion of an end plate together with the marginal portion of the can body. All layers of the seamed sheet are tightly joined opposite each other in the curled and seamed portion, thus hermetically sealing a finished can.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1975Date of Patent: August 31, 1976Assignee: Nihon Seikan Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kiyoshi Kawamata
