Patent number: 11921671Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable media for creating, deleting, and restoring volume snapshots in a remote data store are disclosed. A storage volume and a storage operating system are implemented in a software container. Through a user interface, a user may create a snapshot of the volume to a cloud storage. A user may also delete individual snapshots from the cloud storage. Further, deletion of a most recent snapshot may occur by awaiting deletion (though marking as deleted to the user) until a next snapshot is received. Snapshots in the cloud storage are manipulatable even after destruction of the source volume (by destruction of the container, for example). A controller outside the container is used by implementing the same API as the controller in the container had. Full restores of snapshots in the cloud are also possible even when the original container and volume have been destroyed.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2020Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: NETAPP, INC.Inventors: Kiyoshi Komatsu, Ardalan Kangarlou, Richard Swift, Rajesh Rajaraman, Ling Zheng

Patent number: 11494088Abstract: The disclosed techniques enable push-based piggybacking of a source-driven logical replication system. Logical replication of a data set (e.g., a snapshot) from a source node to a destination node can be achieved from a source-driven system while preserving the effects of storage efficiency operations (deduplication) applied at the source node. However, if missing data extents are detected at the destination, the destination has an extent pulling problem as the destination may not have knowledge of the physical layout on the source-side and/or mechanisms for requesting extents. The techniques overcome the extent pulling problem in a source-driven replication system by introducing specific protocols for obtaining missing extents within an existing replication environment by piggybacking data pushes from the source.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2020Date of Patent: November 8, 2022Assignee: NetApp Inc.Inventors: Xin Wang, Vijay Deshmukh, Kiyoshi Komatsu, Jonathan Curley, Laura Beegle, Srishylam Simharajan, Gurmeet Singh

Patent number: 8290972Abstract: A system and method are described for storing and accessing data using a plurality of probabilistic data structures. In one embodiment, a plurality of probabilistic data structures are identified, each probabilistic data structure being associated with at least one other probabilistic data structure. The plurality of probabilistic data structures each correspond to a portion of a storage device storing a dataset. The dataset may include a plurality of values, such as a plurality of data blocks. A plurality of keys may be generated from the plurality of values, such as a plurality of fingerprints. Each key may be inserted into the probabilistic data structures which correspond to the portion of the storage device storing the value the key was generated from. The plurality of probabilistic data structures are stored in a memory and may be queried with an item to determine if the item exists in the plurality of probabilistic data structures.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2009Date of Patent: October 16, 2012Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Vijay Deshmukh, Kiyoshi Komatsu, Prashant Saraswat

Patent number: 8046332Abstract: A method and system for generating and restoring a backup image are disclosed. A server receives a request, which includes a backup path, to generate a backup image. The server generates a backup image offset map that indicates a relative location where a file is stored in the backup image before file data has been written to the backup image. The server stores the backup image offset map in a portion of the backup image on a storage device. The backup image offset map comprises an array having a number of elements equal to a number of inodes on a file system that hosts a backup path, an element of the array representing an inode on the file system, and indicates the relative location where a file that is associated with a number of the inode is stored in the backup image.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2010Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: Network Appliance, Inc.Inventors: Arvind Pruthi, Kiyoshi Komatsu

Patent number: 7815800Abstract: A refuse/oil removing device and a refuse/oil recovery bag are provided which can remove refuse and oil contained in drainage discharged from a restaurant in a simple manner without contact with the refuse and oil. A support base of a support unit is disposed in the interior of a grease trap at a position higher than the water level. A recovery bag is attached to the support unit and plural layers of bag portions of the recovery bag are put on the support base. The bag portions are each formed of a material which permits the adhesion of oil thereto and a large number of water passing holes are formed in each of the bag portions. Drainage is introduced inside the innermost one of the plural layers of bag portions and is passed through the bag portions, allowing refuse and oil to adhere to the bag portions. In this way, the job of replacing the recovery bag can be simplified and the amount of oil accumulated within the grease trap can be decreased.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2004Date of Patent: October 19, 2010Inventor: Kiyoshi Komatsu
