    Abstract: Proposed is a disc recording and/or reproducing apparatus into which, of an optical disc cartridge having a cartridge main body housing an optical disc, which cartridge main body includes at least a guide section on at least one of its lateral sides along the direction of insertion into the apparatus, and a magnetic disc cartridge housing a magnetic disc of the same radius as the optical disc and having a thickness lesser than the thickness of the optical disc cartridge, only the optical disc cartridge may be loaded. The apparatus includes a loading unit for loading the optical disc cartridge onto a disc loading section, and a mistaken insertion inhibiting unit having a width broader than the thickness of the guide section of the optical disc cartridge and narrower than the thickness of the magnetic disc cartridge.

The signal recording/reproducing section, the loading mechanism and the control circuit are housed in a casing which is 101.6 mm or less in width, 150 mm or less in length and 25.4 mm or less in height and which is provided with a disc inserting opening. The apparatus may be reduced in size without decreasing the recording capacity.

    Abstract: A disk drive apparatus includes a shutter operating pin engageable with a pin receptacle on the shutter of a disk cartridge. The shutter operating pin is carried by a shutter operating arm which is pivotable for causing a transverse shift of the shutter operating pin for shifting the shutter from a closed position, at which a disk is inaccessible, to an open position, at which the disk is accessible. An arm lock mechanism is provided for locking the shutter operating arm at the shutter fully opened position. The arm lock mechanism is provided in the cartridge holder. The cartridge holder is also provided with a cartridge lock mechanism which includes a cartridge lock pin engageable with a lock pin receptacle on the disk cartridge. The cartridge lock mechanism is actuated by means of the shutter operating arm at the shutter fully opened position, to establish locking engagement of the cartridge lock pin with the lock pin receptacle of the disk cartridge.

    Abstract: A disc cartridge made up of a cartridge housing and a disc-shaped recording medium, such as an optical disc or a magneto-optical disc, accommodated in the cartridge housing, is disclosed. The cartridge housing of the disc cartridge is provided with a recording/reproducing aperture for exposing a part of the disc-shaped recording medium to the outside along the radius of the disc, and with a shutter member for opening or closing the aperture. Within a shutter opening actuating recess formed in the cartridge housing, a discriminating member associated with the type of the disc-shaped recording medium accommodated in the cartridge housing is provided for closing at least a part of the recess to prevent insertion of the disc cartridge into a recording and/or reproducing apparatus which is not suited to the type of the disc-shaped recording medium of the disc cartridge.
