The second cranking mechanism causes a crankshaft 1 to rotate mechanically during the beginning of its rotation which requires a high torque, and the first cranking mechanism places it in continuous rotation.

    Abstract: An improved engine starter has a DC motor with a rotor shaft drivingly connected to an output shaft by a planetary reduction gear, the sun gear of the reduction gear being formed on the outer surface of the rotor shaft and the ring gear of the reduction gear being located on the inner surface of the yoke of the DC motor. The improvement comprises the yoke having a support portion integrally formed thereon which rotatably supports a one-piece end of the output shaft which is connected to the rotor shaft. Preferably, the yoke is formed by deep drawing of mild steel. A dust preventing member forms a labyrinth seal around the rotor shaft and prevents dust from entering the motor from the reduction gear.

    Abstract: An engine starter protecting device which prevents engagement of the starter's pinion with the ring gear of the engine, even when the engine is rotating. Sensors detect when the gear shift lever is in the neutral position, when the frequency of the ignition pulses for the engine is above a predetermined value, when the vacuum pressure of the intake air to the engine is at or below a predetermined value, when the vacuum pressure of the intake air to the engine is at or below a predetermined value, and when the output voltage from the altenator of the invention exceeds a predetermined voltage. The electromagnetic switch which controls the starter motor is prevented from operating unless the outputs from the detectors are in predetermined states.

    Abstract: An automatic starter for a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission with which excessively abrupt starting of the engine of the vehicle is inhibited. The automatic starter includes an accelerator pedal having first and second accelerator pedal members. The first accelerator pedal member is attached to the second accelerator pedal member through a returning elastic member so as to be biased apart. A rod extends downwardly from the second accelerator pedal member through the first accelerator pedal member with the lower end of the rod forming the operating element of a solenoid. The two accelerator pedal members carry contacts which are closed when the second accelerator pedal member is depressed downwardly against the first accelerator pedal member. Upon the starting of the vehicle, the solenoid is energized to hold the two accelerator pedal members together.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of connecting a coil end by using ultrasonic welding to a commutator fitted in the circumference of a shaft and formed by molding with a molded substrate a plurality of segments to be in one piece. In the ultrasonic welding, vibration is applied to the coil end in such a direction that a component of the vibrating force in the axial direction of the shaft is smaller than the bonding strength between the molded substrate and the segment. The method of the invention is suitable for connecting an armature coil of a rotary machine such as a starter motor etc. to a commutator.
