Abstract: An artificial palate device of electropalatographs for electrically detecting and observing dynamic patterns of linguapalatal contacts during speeches by means of many tongue-contact sensing electrodes provided on a tongue-contacting surface of the device fitted intimately to the surface of hard palate of trainees of articulation study and speech training. The electrodes and lead wires connecting the electrodes to an electropalatograph display device are provided on a surface of base board preliminarily prepared with a flat, electrically insulative and flexible plate material and in a shape intimately adaptable when curved to the hard palate. As required, a flat metal foil easily deformable in sectional shape and retainable in its deformed shape is laminated in the other surface of the base board. The lead wires and metal foil are covered by an insulative layer.

Abstract: An electropalatograph for speech training and the like, which electrically detects linguapalatal contact mode during phonations by means of many contact sensing electrodes provided on a surface with which trainee's tongue contacts of artificial palate device mounted to hard palate surface of the trainee, detected informations denoting the contact mode are transmitted as electromagnetic waves from a transmitter disposed within the trainee's mouth, and transmitted waves are received by a receiver disposed outside the trainee's body and displayed to be observed as dynamic patterns of actual linguapalatal contact mode.

Abstract: Improved artificial palate for use in dynamic palatographical speech researches and improvements in the method of fabricating such artificial palate are provided. The artificial palate comprises a shell body mold-formed with an electrically insulative plastic material in conformity with individual user's palate. A flexible insulative circuit board includes a plurality of sensing electrodes provided in the board over the area thereof and lead wires printed on both surfaces of the board for connecting the respective electrodes to terminals arranged on both surfaces of the board adjacent an edge thereof. The circuit board is embedded in the shell body exposing the sensing electrodes on the inner surface of the body to be in contact with user's tongue during the use. Insulation coated wires connect the electrode terminals to the exterior and form means for mounting the artificial palate in user's mouth when embedded in the plastic material contiguous to the shell body.
