  • Publication number: 20230397053
Abstract: A method is disclosed for a radio access network control node operating in a communication network having an associated user device, wherein the user device has an ongoing application service session with an application server via the communication network. The method includes detecting that a trigger condition is met for the user device, the trigger condition indicating an upcoming communication interruption in relation to the application service session. The method also includes causing implementation of a temporary transmission rate adjustment of the application service session, wherein the temporary transmission rate adjustment provides a radio access channel margin accommodating the upcoming communication interruption. In some embodiments, causing implementation of the temporary transmission rate adjustment includes transmitting an adjustment command to the user device and/or the application server. Corresponding methods for a user device and an application server are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070116103
Abstract: A searcher uses an input signal, and for example, a matched filter to generate a first set of candidate paths. A selector uses the input signal and the first set of candidate paths to generate a second set of paths. The second set of paths is used to configure the fingers of a RAKE receiver. According to one aspect of the invention, the first set of candidate paths contains M paths, and the second stage uses M correlators to generate a set of M correlation values. The second stage uses the M correlation values to select N paths that are used to configure the N fingers of the RAKE receiver. According to another aspect of the invention, the first set of candidate paths contains M paths, and the second stage uses a multiple of M correlators to track the M paths and generate a set of M estimates. The second stage uses the M estimates to select N paths that are used to configure the N fingers of the RAKE receiver.

  • Patent number: 7065130
Abstract: A method and system enables matched filters of a CDMA system to be simplified using a two stage search. A course stage and a fine stage jointly produce the location(s) of received signal path-rays. In a first stage, an oversampled digital signal is decimated, and the decimated signal is applied to a matched filter to eventually produce an approximate location. In a second stage, the oversampled signal is shifted based on the determined approximate location and then correlated to a generated code, and a more-exact location is selected from the outputs of the correlations. Alternatively, a shifted version of the generated code is correlated to the oversampled signal, and the more-exact location is selected from the outputs of those correlations.

  • Publication number: 20020183086
Abstract: A technique for improving open loop power control in spread spectrum telecommunications systems is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the technique is realized by transmitting at least one first access channel probe for a first message from a mobile station to a base station, wherein the transmission power level of each access channel probe in the at least one first access channel probe is increased until a base station acknowledgment is received for a specific access channel probe of the at least one first access channel probe at a first transmission power level. The first transmission power level is then stored at the mobile station. At least one second access channel probe for a second message is then transmitted from the mobile station to the base station, wherein the transmission power level of an initial access channel probe of the at least one second access channel probe for the second message is based upon the first transmission power level.

  • Patent number: 6373882
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for reducing the power consumed by a RAKE receiver. In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, an environment variation estimator is implemented in a CDMA mobile station. The environment variation estimator is connected to the searcher of the RAKE receiver and provides an estimate of the rate at which the mobile station's environment is changing. By providing an estimate of the rate of change of the mobile station's environment, the duty cycle of the searcher can be optimized, thereby reducing the overall power consumed by the receiver. By also providing the estimate to the RAKE fingers, channel tracking can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6370186
Abstract: A circuit is disclosed for sampling analog signals at a rate which is a rational, non-integer fraction of a clock frequency. The analog signal is sampled at non-equidistant sampling points, with the distances between successive points forming a jitter sequence. The jitter sequence is pre-calculated and stored in a memory within the circuit, reducing processing requirements in use.

  • Patent number: 6259747
Abstract: An IQ modulator, and an associated method, for a digital transmitter. The IQ modulator forms I- and Q-components which modulate a carrier. • Patent number: 6091963
Abstract: The present invention relates to a receiver device comprising a receiver (104) adapted to receive radio signals in two frequency bands (FB1, FB2). The radio signals in one of the frequency bands (FB1) constitute communication signals for a radio system (AMPS, NMT) having a certain channel spacing, whereas the radio signals of the second frequency band (FB2) constitutes communication signals for a second radio system (PCS1900, DCS1800, GSM) having a second certain channel spacing. The receiver (104) comprises two inputs (108, 11) each intended for a radio system having different frequency bands and channel spacing. For radio signals occurring on one input (108), mixing is performed from the RF range directly to the baseband frequency range. For radio signals occurring on the second input (108) the mixing from the radio frequency range to the baseband frequency range is carried out through an intermediate frequency range.

  • Patent number: 6029052
Abstract: A multiple-mode receiver incorporating direct conversion (processing received signals using intermediate frequencies within the same frequency range as the received signal bandwidth) rather than superheterodyne circuitry, allowing receiver hardware components to be re-used rather than replicated for each band. Various embodiments are disclosed in which low pass filters, mixers, quadrature generators, oscillators, and amplifiers are re-used.

  • Patent number: 5579347
Abstract: A digitally compensated direct-conversion receiver includes devices for generating digital samples of a base-band in-phase signal and a base-band quadrature signal and for detecting the presence of a second-order product signal produced by an amplitude-modulated interfering signal. Also, the apparatus comprises a device for digitally compensating the digital samples by removing the second-order product signal, thereby producing compensated digital samples. In one method of digitally compensating samples of an information signal quadrature-modulating a carrier signal, estimated samples of a second-order product from a switched carrier signal are formed by averaging the digital samples during two time periods and by determining a time of ramps in the in-phase and quadrature signals that occur between the time periods due to the interfering signal. The digital samples may be differentiated and the results smoothed in determining the time of the ramps.
