  • Patent number: 5549101
Abstract: A dosage inhalator is provided for dispensing to a patient a pharmacologically active compound suspended in a fluid. The dosage inhalator includes a carrier having portions for carrying, by intermittent movement, predetermined and reproducible unit doses of the active compound to a conduit through which it is delivered; a maneuverer for actuating the intermittent movement of the carrier, the maneuverer being movable between first and second predetermined positions by a user of the inhalator; and a member for disrupting the movement of the maneuverer upon exhaustion of the active compound in the storage means. The carrier is actuated by a ratchet mechanism including a spring-biased pawl, the maneuverer includes a lever that is reciprocally displaceable between two distinct positions, and the movement of the ratchet mechanism is limited by the displacement of the lever.

  • Patent number: 4907583
Abstract: Device in a previously known powder inhalator intended for inhalation of an air flow which contains pharmacologically active compound in micronized form. The powder inhalator comprises a nozzle unit (2) with a nozzle aperture (2a) as well as a container unit (3) with a releasing or dosing unit (6) for delivering the active compound. The air flow generated by inhalation is at least partly aspirated through an air conduit (7) located in the container unit (3), which conduit extends from an air inlet (8), communicating with the environment, via said releasing or dosing unit (6), up to said nozzle unit (2). According to the invention, deflector devices are stationarily arranged in the container unit (3) and/or in the nozzle unit (2), said deflector devices, for example in the shape of a helical channel portion (13), being arranged to create a powerful deflecting movement for the purpose of disrupting said powder particles into the respirable particle size distribution (less than 5 .mu.m).

  • Patent number: 4805811
Abstract: A dosage device for dosing with high accuracy a particulate material containing a pharmacologically active substance, including a storage chamber, a rotatable dosing unit adjacent the storage chamber, and an operating unit to cause relative rotation between the dosing unit and the storage chamber. The dosing unit is provided with a plurality of upwardly opening recesses opening into said storage chamber to receive particulate material therefrom through an outlet opening from the storage chamber. Scrapers are positioned in the outlet opening immediately above these recesses to pack and level the particulate material into the recesses and level the material off with the upper surface of the dosing unit as the dosing unit rotates relative to the storage chamber.

  • Patent number: 4534345
Abstract: A dosage inhalator for the inhalation of a pharmacologically active compound in solid, micronized form is disclosed. The inhalator comprises a propellant container, a propellant dispensing unit, and a dosing unit for dosing the pharmacologically active compound. The dosing unit comprises a storage chamber for the active compound, a dose loading unit directly connected thereto, and a nozzle. The dose loading unit comprises a movable perforated membrane, and a holder for the perforated membrane. The membrane is displaceable between a first position where active compound is introduced into the perforations of the membrane, and second position where the perforations of the membrane are inserted into a propellant passage. While the membrane is in the second position, the propellant dispensing unit may be operated, allowing propellant originally stored in the propellant container to remove the active compound from the perforations inserted into the propellant passage and carry said compound out the nozzle.
