  • Patent number: 9987761
Abstract: The invention is to a device and method, for cutting a can blank in which case an end section of the can blank is severed. The can blank is moved by means of a conveyor arrangement at a constant speed about a first axis of rotation. Preferably, a laser beam is used as the cutting means. A deflecting arrangement deflects the laser beam to a focal point where the side surface of the can blank is located. Due the rotation of the can blank about its longitudinal axis, the axial end section of said can blank is severed. The focal point of the laser beam does not change relative to the longitudinal axis of the can blank during the laser cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 9555458
Abstract: An ironing ring for use in a press for ironing pressing or drawing of a workpiece. The ironing ring has a work surface which, upon deforming the workpiece, contacts the workpiece, and causes flowing of the workpiece material. In order to prevent friction deposits in the region of the work surface of the ironing ring, a microstructure, differing from the roughness of the work surface, is introduced into the work surface, which forms elevations and/or recesses in the work surface. Material particles remaining on the work surface after the deforming of a workpiece thus adhere less strongly to the work surface and can be stripped off during the next deforming process.

  • Patent number: 9492861
Abstract: A can body (II) having a can base (13) and a can wall (14) is shaped by a wall ironing process starting with a blank (12). A drawing punch (15) moves the blank (12) through a wall ironing container (34) from an opening (35) to an exit (36). The edge (R) of the can body (II) opposite the can base (13) is separated using a cutting device (45), which has a force generating unit (46) arranged adjacent to the exit (36) and at least one cutting edge (26, 27) which can be arranged on the drawing punch (15). The force generating unit (46) generates a force (F) onto the can wall (14) edge (R) to be separated, whereby the edge is sheared off on the at least one cutting edge (26, 27). The can body (II) is located on the drawing punch (15) while the edge (R) is being separated.

  • Patent number: 9415434
Abstract: The invention concerns an arrangement (20) and a method for the manufacture of can bodies from pot-shaped blanks (37). To this end, the blank (37) is inserted into a bottom tool part (45). The blank (37) is clamped between a downholder (23) and a counter support surface (47) of the lower tool part (45). For controlling a position value ? determining the position and/or position change of the downholder (23), a drive arrangement (22) is provided. The drive arrangement controls the position value in accordance with a predetermined course, so as to move the downholder (23) into the clamping position or out of the clamping position EP. As soon as the downholder (23) reaches its clamping position EP, the drive unit (22) controls a force value in accordance with a predetermined course which determines the clamping force F(t) which is applied by the downholder (23) to the blank (37). This occurs preferably by an adjustment of the motor current I to a predetermined course of the desired value IE(t).

  • Patent number: 9242289
Abstract: In a method according to the invention for the manufacture of tear notches (22) in can lids (11), the can lid (11) is subjected in the press tool (10) to a laser engraving during which the desired tear notch (22) is generated. The laser ablation process occurs preferably, with the press tool (10) closed, within a time period of less than 30 ms. During this time, the focal spot (27) of the laser beam (26) is moved over the whole desired contour of the tear notch (22) so that an uninterrupted groove-like cavity is formed. With the use of laser engraving in the press tool, the mechanical wear of the press tool and of the press molds can be minimized and in this way the tool operating life can be increased. In particular, the manufacture of can lids with consistently high quality is ensured.

  • Publication number: 20150344239
Abstract: The apparatus transports cylindrical containers between different operating stations. The containers are thereby transported successively between adjacent operating stations in a stepwise manner. The apparatus encompasses a main drive, which is equipped to move receiving units of the apparatus along a predetermined path between two operating stations. Each receiving unit encompasses a holding device for holding an assigned container. The holding device of the receiving unit encompasses a cylindrical clamping mandrel comprising a plurality of clamping segments.

  • Publication number: 20120266644
Abstract: A device and method for manufacturing in one working stroke in one working direction (A) a can body with cylindrical wall and a neck section of lower diameter. The device has a drivable drawing ring used for deep-drawing of a cup from a round, disk-like blank in a first phase of the working stroke. The cup is drawn with an ironing mandrel into an ironing channel and formed into an ironed workpiece. Finally, a stretch-forming mandrel is moved out of a guide recess of the ironing mandrel and forms the neck section in a stretch-drawing phase, in conjunction with a forming depression of a domer.

  • Publication number: 20110265543
Abstract: The invention relates to a take-off ring 10 which is provided in particular for use in connection with deep-draw presses 12. It serves for removing a top-shaped can body 11 from a drawing plunger 18. The take-off ring 10 includes a multitude of take-off elements 27 which are arranged uniformly distributed in circumferential direction U and separated in each case by a gap 48. The take-off elements 27 are interconnected by an annular base section 30 which extends around the take-off elements 27 in the circumferential direction U. Radially inwardly a spring section 38 and a transition section 39 of the take-off element follow. The transition section 39 is pivotable by way of the spring section 38 about a pivot axis 55 which extends in the circumferential direction U. A take-off tongue 35 extends in a transverse direction away from the transition section 39 toward a free end 41.

  • Publication number: 20030200877
Abstract: A press has a feeding device for feeding material to be machined. The feeding device has at least two motor-driven feeding rollers between which the material to be fed is guided through. The motor drive of the feeding rollers is housed in the feeding rollers. At least one of the feeding rollers can be lifted off the material to be fed and can be placed back onto the material to be fed. The feeding device is arranged on the press such that the feeding device has a degree of freedom in the vertical direction relative to the press.
