  • Patent number: 4838795
Abstract: The invention relates to artifical joint components in total prostheses for teaching, research and as visual aids. The outer form and structure of the joint components is the equivalent of conventional joint components; they consist of easily separable material, such as injection moulded plastic or casting resin. These joint components can be used in basic research and in surgery courses to teach and further develop new operation techniques and to evaluate results of surgery simply and with certainty, since the bone is opened up together with the implant using a simple belt saw. Immediately thereafter, the results of the operation can be evaluated.

  • Patent number: 4718910
Abstract: The object of this invention is a bone cement comprising a mixture of polyacrylate and/or polymethacrylate pre-polymers, monomeric acrylic and/or methacrylic acid derivatives, a polymerization catalyst and possibly a stabilizing agent and an accelerator, and a process for the preparation and application thereof. In the bone cement of the invention, the pre-polymer is a mixture of 5-50% by weight of polyacrylate and/or polymethacrylate fibers with a length of greater than 2 mm and up to 15 mm and a thickness of 50-750 .mu.m, and 50-95% by weight of polyacrylate and/or polymethacrylate pearl polymers consisting of 1-140 .mu.m polymer beads, preferably between 30 and 40 .mu.m as uniform in size as possible, the surface of which is advantageously enlarged by mechanical and/or chemical treatment. The prepolymer may also consist entirely of bead-shaped particles.

  • Patent number: 4713076
Abstract: The invention relates to a coating composition and an anchorage component for implants having a completely or partly coated surface. The coating comprises a filling material of highly porous spherical particles having a diameter from about 10 to about 200 .mu.m and a pore volume from about 25 to about 80% on the basis of solid calcium compounds and a resorbable binding agent (matrix).

  • Patent number: 4671263
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and process for mixing and applying bone cement. The device comprises a sealable container (8) wherein the bone cement, prior to its application, is prepressurized at an adjustable pressure and from which it is subsequently applied at a controllable pressure. The device and the process of the invention allow bubble formation in the bone cement to be suppressed and to achieve the desired stratification of the bone cement around the prosthesis during application.

  • Patent number: 4457028
Abstract: A surgical network material is made from filaments of resorbable organic polymers with a thickness of about 50-300 .mu.m and/or of non-resorbable filaments or wires with a thickness of 100-750 .mu.m. The network which has an internal mesh width of about 1-10 mm, can be used, in particular together with bone cements based on polyacrylates or polymethacrylates, in combating bone defects.

  • Patent number: 4373217
Abstract: An implantation material comprises a polymeric base of an acrylate, a polymethacrylate, a copolymer of an acrylate and a methacrylate or a mixture thereof, and 5-35% by weight of resorbable tricalcium phosphate of a particle size of 50-300 .mu.m, and an available pore volume of less than 0.1 ml/g.
