  • Patent number: 5999875
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with a first pedal position sensor and a second pedal position sensor measuring the position of an accelerator pedal. An emergency running mode of the internal combustion engine is actuated if a failure of either the first or the second pedal position sensor is detected. In the emergency running mode, a rise in the rotational speed or in the travel speed within a prescribed time interval is limited to a prescribed rise value.

Date of Patent: December 7, 1999
    Assignee: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft

  • Patent number: 5992382
Abstract: A method and an apparatus control an internal combustion engine associated with a sensor for sensing a measured variable from which an estimated value of a torque loss of the internal combustion engine is derived. A measured value of the measured variable is determined at prescribed time intervals in each case. The measured values are corrected in such a way that a drop in the corrected measured values within a prescribed time interval is limited to a prescribed drop value.

Date of Patent: November 30, 1999
    Assignee: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft

  • Patent number: 5983859
Abstract: Two accelerator pedal position sensors independently sense the position of an accelerator pedal driving an internal combustion engine. A first emergency running mode of the internal combustion engine is set if a failure is detected of either the first or the second pedal position sensor. In the first emergency running mode, the torque at a shaft of the drive train is limited to an emergency running mode torque which depends on at least one operating variable.
