Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing an absorbent material from at least one plant raw material and an absorbent material manufactured by this method. The invention further relates to uses of the absorbent material and an apparatus having at least one device for grinding grains. The method according to the invention comprises the following steps: grinding whole cereal grains; extruding the ground cereal grains into spheres; and grinding the spheres to form absorbent material. Overall, an independently clumping absorbent material is produced via the method according to the invention from purely plant raw materials, by which liquids to be disposed of, such as, for example, oils, solvents, animal excrement or similar can be bound very rapidly and with high capacity.
