Patent number: 7002785Abstract: A device for protecting the electronic circuitry of electrical appliances against damage from unacceptably high voltages. An element is interposed in the power supply paths which limits the application of an externally supplied excessive voltage to a predetermined time interval and which completely interrupts the current flow when the excessive voltage and current causes a heat build-up. This is accomplished by interposing pairs of spaced-apart solder surfaces at at least one point along the current paths to the electronic circuitry. One solder surface of each pair is connected to the power supply and the other to the power consumer. An element is soldered to the respective solder surfaces of the pairs and electrically closes the current path. A mechanically prestressed spring engages the element and reliably separates it from the solder surfaces when the solder melts due to excessive heating.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1997Date of Patent: February 21, 2006Assignees: FRIWO Geraetebau GmbH, VARTA AG, Siemens AGInventors: Michael Bothe, Armin Wegener, Juergen Heydecke, Ingmar Knop, Klaus Goebel, Klaus-Dieter Skwirblies, Rainer Peters

Patent number: 5903152Abstract: The invention concerns a magnet system (1) for charging of a superconducting magnet coil (3). The magnet system (1) is characterized by control means (4) for reading-in and controlling which read-in data of a storage medium (7) associated with the superconducting magnet (3) into a power supply (2) and which control the charging of the superconducting magnet coil (3) by the power supply (2) using the read-in data. The magnet system (1) facilitates a fully automatic, safe and rapid charging of a superconducting magnet coil (3) and guarantees better reproduceability and an optimal charging process.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1996Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Assignee: Bruker Analytik GmbHInventors: Gerhard Roth, Klaus Goebel, Rene Jeker, Markus Jakob

Patent number: 5513092Abstract: In an AC-powered power supply with a bipolar controller V controlling the instantaneous value of a control quantity measured by a sensor F.sub.1 to a predetermined setting within a deviation of less than 0.1% at 1 Hz via the output DC current I.sub.o, and with an adjustable rectifier EQ followed by a charging inductance L.sub.1 and a filter capacitor C.sub.1, whereby the output of controller V is electrically connected to the output line of the power supply, the output of controller V is AC-decoupled from filter capacitor C.sub.1 by a decoupling inductance L.sub.2, two potentials V.sub.o +V.sub.1 and V.sub.o -V.sub.2 are supplied to controller V, and a sensor F.sub.2 is provided for the output current I.sub.2 of controller V, which feeds an output signal to a control unit CTR which controls rectifier EQ in such a way that the mean value of output current I.sub.2 of controller V is regulated to a minimum value.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1994Date of Patent: April 30, 1996Assignee: Bruker Analytische Messtechnik GmbHInventor: Klaus Goebel

Patent number: 5267137Abstract: The invention concerns a high power power supply with output power in excess of 5 kilowatts, by way of example, for the supply of electromagnets in the area of electromedicine and nuclear physics. In order to regulate the output current, power thyristors 28 are utilized within the two bridge rectifier circuits 2 and 3, operated with phase control regulation. In order to keep the output current constant, two transistor final control elements 10 and 11 regulated by a control-gain amplifier are used. Two charging capacitors 6 and 7 are provided for energy storage, the capacity of which is sufficiently large that the commutation of the power thyristors 28 transpires by means of self-extinguishing in a currentless state, whereby conducted as well as irradiated electrical interferences are eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1993Date of Patent: November 30, 1993Assignee: Kohler, Schmid PartnerInventor: Klaus Goebel

Patent number: 4792074Abstract: An arrangement for the stepwise feed of band material which includes a first, locally fixed and driven feed roller and a second feed roller rotatably supported on a rocker; a lifting mechanism is provided, by which the second feed roller is movable at the point in time of the reversal of the direction of rotatin toward the first feed roller for an advance of the band material and away from the same into a return position in which the band material is to be held fixed. The feed arrangement is designed for an intermediate clearing of the second feed roller and of the guide member by abutment of the guide element on a height-adjustable eccentric and for different thick band materials. In the points of reversal of to and fro movements, the second feed roller as also the pressure device are briefly pressed against the band material.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1987Date of Patent: December 20, 1988Assignee: L. Patent number: 4780676Abstract: A method and a device serve for cooling a magnet system, in particular a magnet system (50) of a nuclear spin tomograph, with high homogeneity of the magnetic field. A coil (51, 52, 53, 54) made from an electrically conductive material having a finite active resistance is connected to a power supply unit (72). A cooling body being in thermally conductive contact with the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is passed by a cooling agent. In a first operating mode, at rated duty, the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is supplied with a rated current, and the active throughput of the cooling agent is adjusted to a rated value. In order to keep the energy costs low during inoperative times of the magnet system, while keeping the waiting trimes required when the magnet system is switched on again as low as possible, a second operating mode, defined as stand-by duty, is provided during which the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is supplied with a rest current and the active throughput of the cooling agent is adjusted to a rest value.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1987Date of Patent: October 25, 1988Inventors: Wolfgang Muller, Klaus Goebel
