  • Patent number: 6909351
Abstract: With an ignition coil module comprising a coil system which includes a primary winding and a secondary winding and a flux conducting, soft magnetic device to increase and/or to conduct a magnetic flux generated by one of the windings and comprising an electronic component to control the coil system which has an electrical circuit and a heat sink to cool the electronic component, at least one section of the heat sink is connected to a section of the flux conducting device in a thermally conductive manner such that waste heat of the electronic component can be dissipated over the section of the flux conducting device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 30, 2003
Date of Patent: June 21, 2005
    Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Klaus Gernert, Sami Ruotsalainen, Peter Weyand

  • Patent number: 6437674
Abstract: An ignition apparatus includes a suppression device comprising a suppression winding that is in series with the secondary winding and is further located outside of a magnetic circuit. The suppression winding is made from the same wire as used in the secondary winding and is wound on a reduced diameter portion of a secondary winding spool. A carbon resistor is disposed in series with the suppression winding in another embodiment. Nickel wire may be substituted for the suppression winding and carbon resistor in order to obtain both inductance and resistance characteristics for the suppression device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 2001
Date of Patent: August 20, 2002
    Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Colin Hamer, Albert Anthony Skinner, Klaus Gernert
