  • Patent number: 4473563
Abstract: The invention provides erythrocytes of improved O.sub.2 -release properties having fused thereto small allosteric effectors, f.i. inositol hexaphosphate-containing lipid vesicles. Also included in the invention is a method for making said erythrocytes and plasma containing said erythrocytes. This application is specifically directed to said inositol hexaphosphate-containing lipid vesicles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 2, 1981
Date of Patent: September 25, 1984
    Assignee: Studiengesellschaft Kohle MBH
    Inventors: Yves-Claude Nicolau, Klaus Gersonde
  • Patent number: 4469439
Abstract: For plotting an equilibrium curve representative of the relation between the oxygen saturation value of a hemoglobin sample, such as blood, and a changing oxygen partial pressure level in a gas, the sample is initially oxygenated by an oxygen-containing gas till it is completely saturated with oxygen, and thereafter by a controlled supply of deoxygenating gas to the volume of gas acting on the sample the oxygen partial pressure is decreased in a controlled manner. The oxygen saturation value is determined from the photometrically measured light absorption parameter of the sample in the measuring space.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 4, 1984
    Inventors: Klaus Gersonde, Hinrich Sick
  • Patent number: 4452747
Abstract: In accordance with a method of and an arrangement for producing lipid vesicles from biological membranes or lipid suspensions, a lipid suspension or lipid particles in a dispersion fluid are accommodated in a treatment container, ultrasonic treatment of the same is performed in condition of a substantially constant temperature, ultrasonic frequency and intensity for providing a desirable size or size distribution of the lipid vesicles are determined, and these parameters are maintained constant by measuring an actual value of frequency and intensity of an ultrasonic field of the reaction medium and adjusting a power and frequency of the ultrasonic treatment in dependence upon the measured actual value.

Date of Patent: June 5, 1984
    Inventors: Klaus Gersonde, Wilfried Schal
  • Patent number: 4397846
Abstract: Lipid vesicles, such as those containing inositol hexaphosphate useful for improving the oxygen-release of intact erythrocytes, may be rendered stable to long term storage at temperatures below the freezing point of the encapsulated solution, by rapid freezing at a temperature of from about -196.degree. C. to about -30.degree. C.
