    Abstract: A device for protecting the electronic circuitry of electrical appliances against damage from unacceptably high voltages. An element is interposed in the power supply paths which limits the application of an externally supplied excessive voltage to a predetermined time interval and which completely interrupts the current flow when the excessive voltage and current causes a heat build-up. This is accomplished by interposing pairs of spaced-apart solder surfaces at at least one point along the current paths to the electronic circuitry. One solder surface of each pair is connected to the power supply and the other to the power consumer. An element is soldered to the respective solder surfaces of the pairs and electrically closes the current path. A mechanically prestressed spring engages the element and reliably separates it from the solder surfaces when the solder melts due to excessive heating.

In order to keep the output current constant, two transistor final control elements 10 and 11 regulated by a control-gain amplifier are used. Two charging capacitors 6 and 7 are provided for energy storage, the capacity of which is sufficiently large that the commutation of the power thyristors 28 transpires by means of self-extinguishing in a currentless state, whereby conducted as well as irradiated electrical interferences are eliminated.

    Abstract: A method and a device serve for cooling a magnet system, in particular a magnet system (50) of a nuclear spin tomograph, with high homogeneity of the magnetic field. A coil (51, 52, 53, 54) made from an electrically conductive material having a finite active resistance is connected to a power supply unit (72). A cooling body being in thermally conductive contact with the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is passed by a cooling agent. In a first operating mode, at rated duty, the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is supplied with a rated current, and the active throughput of the cooling agent is adjusted to a rated value. In order to keep the energy costs low during inoperative times of the magnet system, while keeping the waiting trimes required when the magnet system is switched on again as low as possible, a second operating mode, defined as stand-by duty, is provided during which the coil (51, 52, 53, 54) is supplied with a rest current and the active throughput of the cooling agent is adjusted to a rest value.
