  • Patent number: 4695444
Abstract: Sulphur is manufactured out of sulphur dioxide containing gases by dividing the feed gas in two flows of gas having a volume ratio of 2 to 1 and reducing the greater flow of gas on a carbon containing substance like anthracite, thereby obtaining hydrogen sulfide which is mixed with the smaller flow of gas, the mixture being converted in a Claus process to sulphur.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1982
Date of Patent: September 22, 1987
    Assignee: Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation
Inventors: Horst Grochowski, Dieter Zurawsky, Karl Knoblauch, Klaus Goldschmidt, Jurgen Schwarte
  • Patent number: 4441840
Abstract: An improved process for utilizing the residues of a thermal energy power plant washer in which limestone or lime residue is converted to gypsum and the substrate is recrystallized to alpha sulfate hemihydrate and is treated with water. The improvement comprises mixing the alpha sulfate hemihydrate with at least one additive. The additive is selected from the group consisting of flue ash from a coal combustion installation, waste washings or local tailings from coal recuperation, granulate of ash from coal combustion, slag from steel production, clacium sulfate from exhaust gas washers, and calcium sulfate dehydrate from exhaust gas washers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 1980
Date of Patent: April 10, 1984
    Assignees: Ruhrkohle AG, Steag AG
    Inventors: Friedrich Bassier, Klaus Goldschmidt
  • Patent number: 4136998
Abstract: A process for disposing of the residue of exhaust gas washers by utilizing them as a structural material in mines. The sulfur in the exhaust gases is reacted with calcium compounds to form CaSO.sub.4.2H.sub.2 O. The CaSO.sub.4.2H.sub.2 O is recrystallized to alpha-CaSO.sub.4.1/2H.sub.2 O, conveyed underground, mixed with water, implaced and allowed to harden to form barricades or other structures in the mine.

Date of Patent: January 30, 1979
    Assignees: Ruhrkohle AG, Steag AG
    Inventors: Friedrich-Karl Bassier, Klaus Goldschmidt
  • Patent number: 4134774
Abstract: Concrete, especially for producing concrete blocks of high compressive strength, is formed from a hydraulic binder and an improved aggregate which consists of 0.1:1 to 1:0.1 parts of a sludge to comminuted slag. The sludge is a calcium-containing product of the scrubbing of the flue gases of a fossil-fuel boiler, preferably of a power plant, while the slag can be melting-chamber slag or ash obtained from the furnace. The composition may also contain sand or gravel. It is combined with water, to be cast into cement blocks of high compressive strength. Low proportions of the hydraulic binder are required with the improved aggregate.
