    Abstract: An x-radiator has heat-producing components therein which are enclosed in a housing filled with an insulating fluid surrounding the components. A circulating pump is in fluid communication with the interior of the housing and has respective ports through which the fluid is circulated through the pump between the ports for aiding in dissipating heat from the components. The pump may be integrated within the housing, or attached to an exterior of the housing, with only its ports being in communication with the housing interior. The pump may be a squirrel-cage induction motor with a fluid conveying element, such as a ship's propellor forming a unit with the rotor and being arranged in a protective housing together with the stator.

    Abstract: An x-radiator has a rotating anode on which electrons emitted by a thermionic cathode are incident to produce an x-ray beam. The electron stream is incident on the anode at a focal spot. The focal spot on the anode is prevented from migrating laterally from a selected point by a magnetic field generated by a coil acting on the electron stream. The position of the emitted x-ray beam is monitored by a detector, and upon a change in position of the x-ray beam, corresponding to a migration of the focal spot, the detector supplies a signal to a control unit for the coil which adjusts the magnetic field to maintain the electron stream at the desired focal spot.

    Abstract: An x-ray tube has a cathode head for focusing an electron beam directed at an anode. The cathode head is made of ferromagnetic material having a Curie point above 700.degree. C. and is mounted on a supporting element to the tube envelope via a direct metallic connection in the form of soldering or welding. The combination of the high Curie point and the direct metallic connection provide good heat transfer such that the Curie point is not exceeded so that the cathode head always remains ferromagnetic. The cathode head thus always operates in a predictable manner and no movement of the focus by magnetic fields occurs.

    Abstract: A rotatable anode for an X-ray tube comprising a body composed of a porous, difficult to melt material enclosed in a sealed fashion within an enveloping layer of a difficult to melt material, characterized by the porous body being of a material having a good thermal conductivity and a good thermal capacity and said porous body having its pores filled with a material having a good thermal conductance and being a good conductor of heat. The porous body is preferably a sintered porous body. The material of the porous body as well as the material of the enclosing layer are selected from a group consisting of tungsten, molybdenum, niobium, chromium, vanadium, titanium, carbon, alloys of these materials, and compounds of these materials. The filler material is preferably a metal selected from a group consisting of silver, gold, copper, aluminum, and alloys of these elements containing not less than a predominant proportion of at least one of these metals.
